Hunter x Hunter to Run in Viz's Shonen Jump When it Resumes

posted on by Karen Ressler

Hisashi Sasaki, vice president for global Shonen Jump at Viz Media, confirmed on Twitter on Tuesday that Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter X Hunter manga will run simultaneously in Viz Media's English digital edition of Shonen Jump when it resumes from hiatus on June 26.

The manga also ran in Viz's Shonen Jump from April to June 2016, when it last returned from hiatus. The manga had been on a two-year hiatus since 2014's combined 37th/38th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2014. What was initially a two-week hiatus for the author's serious lower back pain extended until April 2016.

The manga's 34th compiled book volume is also slated for release on June 26. To commemorate the manga's return, the first 40 chapters will be available for free in Japanese on the Shonen Jump Plus online. The first 17 chapters are available for free in English on Viz Media's website.

Shueisha shipped the manga's 33rd volume (seen right) – the first compiled book volume for the series since December 2012 – on June 3. Viz Media released the 32nd compiled book volume in North America in April 2014. The manga inspired two television anime series; the latest one ran from 2011 until 2014. The manga also inspired two anime films and several original video anime titles.

The manga has also inspired at least two smartphone games. The most recent, titled Hunter X Hunter: World Hunt, launched in February.
