Ghibliotheque Live Events in London on September 4

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Podcast hosts will introduce documentary at Prince Charles Cinema, then present live special episode in the evening at Kingston Place

There will be two live events on Saturday September 4 related to the British Ghibliotheque podcast. These events follow the publication of the book Ghibliotheque: An Unofficial Guide to the Movies of Studio Ghibli on September 2, as a hardcover and a Kindle book. The book is written by the book's co-hosts, Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham.

There will be a live special episode of Ghibliotheque on September 4 at St Pancras Room in Kingston Place, near Kings Cross St Pancras station. The event is part of the London Podcast festival, and tickets are available here.

Earlier on September 4, the Ghibliotheque hosts will also present a screening of the feature-length documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness at the Prince Charles Cinema at 12.30 p.m. (lunchtime). There will also be a book signing event. The Japanese documentary was released in 2013, and shows Studio Ghibli at the time of the production of The Wind Rises. Tickets are available here.

Amazon describes the Ghibliotheque book:

"Based on the Ghibliotheque podcast, which leafs through the library of films from the world's greatest animation studio, Studio Ghibli. A fully illustrated book that reviews each Studio Ghibli movie in turn, in the voice of expert and newcomer.

"Will include details of production, release, themes, key scenes and general review as well as Ghibli-specific information. To be illustrated with stills and posters from each movie and (hopefully) portraits of directors, writers and creative team."

The episodes of the Ghibliotheque podcast are available here. As well as covering films by and related to Ghibli, the podcast has also covered the anime of Satoshi Kon and the films of the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon.
