The 12-episode original television anime series premiered in Japan in October 2016. Crunchyroll describes the series:

Yuri Katsuki carried the hope of all Japan on his shoulders in the Figure Skating Grand Prix, but suffered a crushing defeat in the finals. He returned to his hometown in Kyushu and hid away in his family's home, half wanting to continue skating and half wanting to retire. That was when the five-time consecutive world champion, Viktor Nikiforov, suddenly showed up with his teammate, Yuri Plisetsky, a young skater starting to surpass his seniors. And so the two Yuris and the Russian champion Viktor set out to compete in a Grand Prix like none the world has ever seen!

Manga creator Mitsurou Kubo (Moteki, 3.3.7 Byooshi) and director Sayo Yamamoto (Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Michiko & Hatchin) are credited with the original work for the franchise. Yamamoto directed and oversaw the scripts for the series, and Kubo designed the original characters and drew the storyboards. Additionally, Tadashi Hiramatsu (Parasyte -the maxim-) adapted the character designs for animation, Kenji Miyamoto is credited with the figure skating choreography, Taro Umebayashi (aka milk from PIANO) and Taku Matsushiba (PIANO) composed the music, and Keisuke Tominaga (Kids on the Slope, Terror in Resonance music director) was the music producer. MAPPA animated the series.

An anime film was slated for 2019 but was later canceled in 2024 due to "various circumstances."
