Vampire plague takes over in
Damn Nation

Andrew Cosby, the creator of UPN's Haunted and the Sci-Fi network original series Eureka, teams with rising star and Eisner Award-nominee J. Alexander (Queen and Country) for a vampire epic of global proportions.

The United States' borders and ports are locked down against a terrible threat. However, the barbed wire and infantries are not positioned to keep an enemy out, but to protect the rest of the world from a vampire plague that's spread over every inch of the country.
Most of the living have fled the U.S., but a group of scientists remain behind, working on a cure. A military operation is launched from the President's current offices in the U.S. Embassy in London, to save the potential cure from the encroaching undead—but the real motivations of the military remain in question.

“Damn Nation is a reinterpretation of the classic vampire tale,” commented series writer Andrew Cosby. “My initial goal was simple. I wanted to make the vampire scary again. To do that, I had to strip it down to its essential elements: a bloodthirsty nocturnal predator driven by a single biological imperative to feed. Once that was accomplished, all that was left to do was find a villain. For that, I had to look to the real monster in my story: man.”

Damn Nation #1 (of 5) written by Andrew Cosby with art by J. Alexander arrives on sale February 16 with a retail price of $2.99. Edited by Scott Allie.

More classic monster humor from Pete von Sholly in
Morbid Volume 2: Dead But Not Out

The confluence of cinema and comic books is a frequently raised subject, but now veteran motion-picture storyboard artist Pete von Sholly bridges the gap once again! Morbid Volume 2, the sequel to last year's groundbreaking publication, blurs the line between these two mediums even further. Von Sholly takes the time-honored European fumetti method to its next level with custom-sculpted models, costumed actors, and computer-generated special effects! The stories themselves run the gamut from tongue-in-cheek lampoons of classic sci-fi movies to gut-wrenching horror in the Lovecraft tradition. The future of graphic storytelling may well be in Pete von Sholly's Morbid!

“In Morbid 2 there are, of course, a couple of my beloved 'fifties drive-in movie takeoffs but there are also some science fiction, ghost, and just plain monster stories which move into territory beyond what I had in the first book,” commented Morbid creator Pete von Sholly. “There is still plenty of humor; it is ‘morbid with a wink’ after all, and I'm trying in a subtle way to build a body of work with some recurring characters and cross-references sprinkled in so that the more you read, the more the connections will be evident. I'm having a blast and I hope you'll come along for the ride!”

Von Sholly's experience working on countless sci-fi and horror genre films (The Mask, Darkman, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Mars Attacks, etc.), as well as his experience as a Disney animation artist and conceptual designer, come together to unveil an inventive leap in visual storytelling.

Morbid Volume 2: Dead But Not Out arrives February 23 with a retail price of $14.95. Edited by Dave Land.

Dark Horse launches all-ages
manga Darkchylde comic!

Manga Darkchylde features a new mythology, new look, and a new attitude, in a brand new, ALL AGES re-interpretation of an enduring fan favorite!

Poor Ariel only wants to use her curse for good, but the creepy Sisters seem to have something else in mind...

Creator Randy Queen first launched Darkchylde in 1996, a tale about the haunted teen with a kind heart, and a cursed ability. With its beautiful art and captivating story, it quickly became one of the hottest books in America, out sold the X-Men and Spider-man in European markets, and spawned a line of best-selling toys, trading cards, statues, lithographs, and apparel!

Now Randy returns to comics to write, draw, and re-imagine for a new generation, the character that made him famous! Featuring his most compelling story and gorgeous art to date, this special 32-page first issue: “Shadowmaker” Part I is sure to be embraced by Darkchylde's worldwide fans.

“It'll be great to be in shops again,” says Randy, “and this will be one of the most visually arresting, high spirited, and entertaining reads of 2005! All-ages doesn't mean solely for kids, because we've got something for everyone! The heart and sentiment of Iron Giant, the dark and profound themes seen in Lion King, married with the sheer exhilaration, verve and sophistication of The Incredibles. All with an edge, and energy that's uniquely Darkchylde! If you're a fan of sequential storytelling, you're in for a treat.”

Frank Miller's Sin City gets a new look

More than ten years ago, legendary artist Frank Miller opened a noir opus in Sin City. This critically acclaimed triumph—honored by both an Eisner Award and the prestigious National Cartoonists' Award—combined the pulp intensity of writers like Spillane and Cain with the gritty graphic storytelling that only Miller can deliver.

Now, in 2005, Sin City will be a major motion picture, directed by Miller and Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, SpyKids). It features a cast of Hollywood all-stars and a distinctive look based on Miller's award-winning graphic novels. The upcoming motion picture will be based on three Sin City titles: Sin City: The Hard Goodbye, Sin City: The Big Fat Kill, and Sin City: That Yellow Bastard.

Beginning in February, Dark Horse is re-releasing, in brand-new editions designed by award-winning book designer Chip Kidd, the entire collection of Sin City graphic novels. Each edition features a new 6'x9” size and Kidd's new cover designs and the original Sin City graphic novel has a new subtitle, The Hard Goodbye.
