What's It About?

It's the middle of the 20th century, and Americans everywhere are terrified of the strange lights hovering above them in the night sky…and they should be.

These UFOs are actually the Xilien invasion force! Revealed to have already been on Earth during the events of Here There Be Dragons: Sons of Giants, the Xiliens have been attempting to destabilize the planet with the help of kaiju from outer space. With the aliens' claws deep inside the U.S. government, will our rogue operatives manage to band together to save humanity?

Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens has a story by Frank Tieri and art by Angel Hernandez. Published by IDW Publishing(April 21, 2026).

Kaiju are terrifying. They are forces of nature, prehistoric creatures, or mistakes by man, the product of nuclear experiments. But hold on, what if Kaiju were actually brought here by aliens to soften up humanity for the final blow before being completely dominated?

In Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens, there is a war between two alien forces, one of which is on the very brink of enslaving humanity for reasons. An American researcher who is treated with contempt by his own government is kidnapped by a rogue Japanese researcher and forced to see the truth of the horror that is, at the moment, being unleashed upon Earth. Kajiu are fighting each other as humans suffer, just as the Xiliens—a race of aliens already embedded in world governments—seek victory. “May he who has the bigger monster toys win.”

Giant robot Jet Jaguar will take on Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla, King of Monsters, might just end up fighting for the humans, in this monster free-for-all.

Hernandez's art is great, recalling American comics I grew up with, even as the story just keeps throwing ideas, threats, monsters, and solutions against the wall to see what sticks. “All hell, as they say…has completely broken loose,” the mysterious Japanese researcher Dr. Kyoto offers helpfully before being unmasked as the other alien race in the mix, while Mecha King Ghidora takes down New York City. But, seriously, as two alien races, a host of Kaiju, MechaKaiju, and FrankenKaiju roam the earth, and a simple, patriotic man seeks to save humanity…is a strong plot even possible? No. But who cares, really? This was a monstrous amount of fun, but ultimately makes little sense, even compared to the rest of the IDW Kaiju comics we've read.
