Do you find it hard to talk with other anime fans in real life? I tried talking to someone today and it was like talking to a brick wall.

Not at all. Just find an anime that you both saw and liked. I find it easy.

No, we are normaly so anamated and lould that the 24 hour starbucks asks us to quiet down.

i find it hard to NOT talk about anime when i'm around a fellow fan. That's the hard part. so i save myself the pain most of the time

No really though. I think one possible reason behind this is the very topic of anime itself. Usually, people try to become friends with people of various intrests. Some people try to talk about other things, just to signify that "hey, I like anime, but it's doesn't take over my entire life". Something like that. I feel that way sometimes, but I need to loosen up every now and then =P. It really depends on the person sometimes. Some people will be glad to have hour long conversations with you on a certain anime, but will stay completely silent about other ones. There can be a lot of factors pertaining to this. Just be open minded. Some people are a bit more open about anime than others. |

Maybe it's just my school, but almost anyone I try to talk to that enjoys anime lacks all social skills.

I know what you mean. Social skills completely vary from person to person. I know someone who is really shy, but during anime club, can come out strongly and loud. Some places, anime is still percieved as an underground intrest and such, and isn't widely talked about. |

I can't find why it should be hard....Unless someone is 24 hours a day shouting about anime and giving his/her existence to it, I like to talk about it. Thought, I either like other things (let's say...Basketball, since I believe most americans also do), and I don't care to talk about it.
Those who lack anything is not anime. Of course they can do what they want, but personally, they're probably missing a lot of things they'd like. |

Not at all. I work with a guy who I found out was into Anime's too. But he started working different shifts and in different places at our facility that I don't see much of him, and when I do it's purely work related conversation. The hardest job is finding that many people who openly admit to being fans. That could be because of the type that they perfer though.

I agree with you that it is a hard task to talk with people about anime , in my country people think that anime is only for children so when ever you start a talk about anime they will only say : (( won't you grow up !! )) ...
on the other hand we have some anime freaks (but you have to find them ) that is why I hold mangas wherever I go and then someone will come and say (( do you read manga or watch anime ? )) and there I have someone to talk with

It's hard enough for me to find another anime fan.
Really, I have a couple of friends who are as fond of anime as I am and we usually can talk quite a lot about an anime that we love. But as I'm usually more into the romance animes and them into the mech/fighting/action stuff we tend to just talk only about the little we have in common (so far, it's been Full Metal Panic and Kiddy Grade, but there's only so much you can discuss about one or two anime). So most of the time, it's about stuff we've seen on TV or about where to find a certain title and so on. I have not been able to get them to talk to me indepth about Ai Yori Aoshi, for example, because they have not seen it. Kinda sad, because I don't see a lot of hardcore fans in Singapore. |

Occasionally.
My social skills are pretty bad. I'm very quiet and shy in general but when I moved to my new school I was pretty much a ghost. I can talk to certain people, but some people just aren't on the same level of communication I am. Still, I'm happy. |

I know what you mean. And it's not just about anime, but other things in life too. It's like the last time I told someone I wanted to de-cat my car and he was going "What? You have a cat in your car? What happens if he poops or sheds fur?"  In fact, someone once asked me "If I put this nice, cool-looking neon lights on my car, will that make it go faster?" Answer: No.
Generally, a lot of people are not truly "into" something. They just know a little bit, just barely scratching the surface. Talk to them about anime and they go "Oh, I've seen Pokemon on TV. The animals are so cute." I really don't know how to continue with the conversation. It's little wonder we don't normally open up with our passions. We just don't communicate on the same frequency. It's not to say we anime fans (or any other type of "fan" for that matter, such as hardcore car lovers like myself for example) are intellectually superior. We just love what we love more than others and we know so much more in depth and can go into the finer details. But, taking the example of the casual anime fan (and even they are quite a rare breed here), they just don't know enough to allow us to converse in detail about the finer points. They know just about enough to comment "Oh, the mechs look so cool. And they can shoot laser from their guns." What about characterization, drama, plot development? |

I have a few friends who like anime at college, and we only talk about anime or Japanese related but every now & then there would be an akward moment, you know like after you change topic there would be a long silent and akward moment.
But most of the time I would talk with my cousin whom also like anime and games like me, we could cover every anime topic for hours  .
