I remember reading about this on Kotaku a few days ago. So Brian Ashcroft is nearly correct about AKB48 member is a virtual idol. So it looks like ANN and AKB48's official confirmed that for me and Brian.

That's so weird, and yet somehow it works. Maybe she can open for Hatsune Miku.
I guess this means she has a permanent spot in the group, being that she doesn't age (or does she  ).

Cool technique, but nothing new, and rather hard to pull off over and over, so it's inefficient in a sense, though they could probably use the base they have now to actually build a photorealistic version of her in CG I guess so they can animate her without requiring the use of all the other members whose parts she's made out of all the time.

Of COURSE AKB48 gets in on the virtual idol bandwagon. *sighs* Oh, Yasushi Akimoto, you sure know how to appeal to each decade's interests, dontcha?
But seriously, I'm pretty excited about how this is going to pan out. I'm a pretty big fan of both Onyanko Club and Akihabara48, so in my eyes, Akimoto can do no wrong. I hope this goes well! ^^ |

As some one who lives here in Tokyo, to me AKB48 represents everything shallow and fake about Japanese pop-culture today, and their newest "member" not even being a real person is so representative of this.
