Hi, I'm new.

I discovered Anime recently. I mean I knew Anime before but it was only Nicky Larson and Dragon Ball Z and nothing more.

I friend of mine told me that there are other kind of anime than does tv series.
So he made me watched Ghost in the Shell, The Castle in the Sky, Cowboy Bebop, Jin Rho, Metropolis and others. And bam, I'm know an "anime fan" (sort of).

So is there anyone here who can suggest me some titles that I might like considering what I already see ?

Thanks.

Please be sure to check out-

Studio Ghibli's Catalouge, mainly the films directed by Takahata and Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away)

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series

Things produced by a company called Sunrise tend to have a pretty big appeal to western anime fans. Also, if you were/are a fan of Dragonball Z (nothing to be ashamed of, mind you), check out other Shonen Jump adaptations like One Piece, Naruto, Yuyu hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin and Saint Seiya.

I forgot a sentence in my previews post : Actually I don't like Dragon Ball Z and that kind of anime. That's why I didn't want to watch others at first. It's that friend of mine who told me that others are worth a shot.

Thanks for those advice.
Actually I already got Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. I like it. It's not absolutly excellent but it's good. It's my first anime series. The other anime I saw were films.

then I would reccomend more movies for you

Ninja Scroll is a MUST SEE. Its about a vagabound ninja in the Tokugawa period. A great mix of fantasy and action in beautiful historical settings. I am sure the animation itself will astonish you. Just please, for the love of god, dont watch Ninja Ressurrection! Some boneheads on the net claim that it is the sequel/prequel/whateva to Ninja Scroll but it is not! Be warn. Ninja Ressurrection is one of the biggest pieces of garbage you can find in anime. But that is my oppinion only. So one more time, Ninja Scroll = GOOD, Ninja Ressurrection = BAD.

Another great movie is Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Listen, it is probably the best anime movie about vampires out there. Or maybe... crossout the "anime" word in the previous sentence. The movie is simply great. It`s about a Vampire hunter Wink and his name is D, and he is half vampire Razz and he hunts Vampires Razz he he OK I know this sounds corny but the movie is fenomenal! And again: dont confuse it with Vampire Hunter D, which was the first movie released i think in the 80`s. Bloodlust is the second movie and only Bloodlust is worth watching.

Akira. A classic of its kind! Produced with the state of the art animations techniques in the 80`s Akira still holds the position of a masterpiece. Akirai s the definition of Cyber Punk anime. It is set in a futuristic world dwellen by street riots and overall chaos. In this world there seem to exist "people" with great powers capable of destroying all armies. It seems the strongest out of those "chosen ones" is a young boy named Akira. A MUST SEE.

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin` on Heaven`s Doors. I hope you already seen the movie. If not: then what are you waiting for?? The movie takes place somewhere between episode 22 and 23 I think. WATCH IT! NOW! THAT`S AN ORDER SOLDIER!

I think that is all in case of full motion pictures. I will leave the tv series recomendations for the rest of these guys here. Believe me: they know their $hi+ Razz this forum had a lot of reccomend topics.

I saw all of them already.

Ninja Scroll : it was cool but not exactly what I like.
Vampire Hunter D. : I think I didn't understand everything in that film.
Akira : That's very good.
Cowboy Bebop : That was also great. I had a great time watching that one. I'm wondering if I'm gonna get the series.

Just watched Ghost in the Shell 2. Well,... I prefer the first one. This one is more focused on the criminal affair.

Damn...... then you prolly should stay far away from Evangelion, RahXephon, Texhnolyze and Lain.

Seriously, it was VHD: Bloodlust you saw right? With D, Meier Link, Carmilla the bloody and the bounty hunters. Because there is also a Vampire Hunter D from the 80's; not that that one is any harder to understand. They both have a simple save the girl plot, not meaning that Bloodlust isn't the most awesome thing I have ever since in spite it.

Yes I'm sure it was this one :

You know what, maybe I'll watch it again. Cause when I saw it, I wasn't very concerned with anime and didn't saw much of them.
You know sometimes when you start watching other kinds of films (films that comes from another culture - in that case the japanese culture) the more you watch them the more you know how to appriciate them. Do you see what I mean ? I had the same thing with Indian films (I'm also a fan of those Indian/Bollywood films) when you start to watch them you're a bit surprised and don't really understand how to watch it. But once you saw some of them, then you really start to appreciate, maybe almost like the people from that culture. The thing is to start with good films, otherwise it won't work. Maybe I was lucky to start with Spirited Away and Grave Of The Fireflies. I could have started with some bad ones.

Hmm... I really dont know how you could not understand VHD:B, but maybe the part with the countess was a bit confusing for some people, but other than that the anime follows a rather simple plot: vampire kidnaps girl, the vampire hunters set out to rescue her, there is some AMAZING action and great plot twists Wink etc I still stay by my oppinion that Bloodlust is the greatest movie about vampires.
If you would like anything else I would reccomend Berserk but be warn that the manga surpasses the anime in almost every way, which doesnt mean the anime is bad. On the contrary, the anime is really really good, I just like the manga better. Berserk is the deffinition of Dark Fantasy and allows us to see into the life of a mercenary named Gatsu. You should knwo that Berserk is one of the most recognizable series in the world. Following the same path, why dont you try Monster? The anime is a little long but I think you would like it. Monster follows a story of a Japanese brain surgeon practising in Germany whose life changes after he saves the life of a small boy. Who would have thought what the consequences of that will be :O...
And what about Record of Lodoss War? A great fantasy anime, which in many cases is predictable to the bone but still managses to hold your attention. It also has one of the most BEAUTIFUL animation you will ever see. All hand drawn. Just give it a chance.
Leaving fantasy behind us Wink my last recom would be Fullmetal Alchemist, the past Big Thing. And please, save yourself the trouble of trying to get to know mroe about it before you watch it. There are too many spoilers on the web. Just get the first episode, and if you dont like it, forget about it. But remember, in my oppinion FMA was the best series of the previous year.

Bastard would also be nice to watch, only 6 eps but Dark Schneider (main character) is so freaking funny Laughing

But don't think that it is just something with a lot of humour, it also contains nude a bit of violence Wink

Heh yeah, Bollywood movies rock your pants. They are often so happy go lucky, which is a welcome change for me.

The reason why not that many movies are mentioned is prolly because there aren’t as many compared to series and there are very few really good ones. Generally the best ones are from studio Ghibli and directed by Miyazaki. But I wouldn’t call what he makes anime, they are more animation than anime.

Among them I would recommend Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro and Princess Mononoke

As far as Anime by others concerned I believe most of the good ones are already mentioned. However you should check out R.O.D, which is not a movie but is as long as one and Escaflowne, which is a movie remake of the master piece series.

You have to see Ninja Scroll, Patlabor 2 Movie, Spriggan, Vampire Hunter D-BloodLust, Memories, Akira (remastered edition), Blood-The Last Vampire.
Also "Kenshin-Trust&Betreyal" OVA's and GUNNM OVA are spectacular.
