Errr... given SHAFT's lovely 'farewell' to SZS with the OP of the last episode of Bangaichi, it's highly doubtful that we'll ever see a 4th season (or any more tbh). I suppose some other studio could make an attempt.

No.

I don't want to be rude, but...no. Noone else can handle the despair.

Besides, saying there's no money for yet another season has become a recurring gag for Zetsubou.

I don't think SHAFT has ever written "Nozomu is tired. He can't run any longer. Please, forgive us" before. And before that they go ahead and thank Kumeta/King Records/the fans/etc.

I agree that it has been a gag, but putting such a letter in the beginning of the opening theme isn't really the time to joke.

So, a chapter is similar to something written ages ago and that's enough to make everyone freak out and scrub the chapter from existance? Good grief.

Like a previous poster has said, don't think we will see a season 4, or at least anytime soon.
Season 1 was a classic, season 2 was pretty good, but after season 3 it got rather same-old, same-old.
They need to take a large gap before we can handle any more despair, just to freshen things up abit.
If the demand is still there and SHAFT have nothing else of their plate, then maybe we can see a return then.

I guess it's a bigger deal when it's involving something as well-known and long-running as Doraemon. Still seems to be a bit reactionary to me.

I guess this is the biggest problem...long-running...meaning it had who knows how many chapters.

And it's safe to assume that not everyone read each and every single chapter...and there's also the possibility that the mangaka never read that chapter, or Doraemon as well. Creating controversy over something like that is just...wow.

Japan has tons of good points and bad points. Their obsession over trivial stuff like "possible-plagiarism" is a bad point.

and it created controversy for similarities with a story that appeared in the 13th volume of Fujiko F. Fujio's Doraemon manga decades earlier. The Doraemon story imagined if money transactions went in reverse, so thieves made people accept money instead of taking money.

BRB, going to Hollywood about this.

Let me quote-translate from the afterword of the volume in question:

What happens - Brain

Both my brain and my body are weak. Lately, I feel this strongly. Didn't you all feel there's something wrong when you read this volume? After Chapter 267 comes Chapter 269. What happened to Chapter 268? Since we were informed that the joke heavily overlapped, we refrained from publishing it in the book. Thanks to the people who pointed it out. I brought it to an end without publishing it in the book and adding to my shame. It was the chapter with the Paid Driver-Joke about paying money to do work. There also was a joke about paying money so that people will listen to your Pop music.
The lead-in part is different, but in the second half, when the joke turns the other way, it even goes as far as getting money when going shopping, which overlaps so much you could even say the development was stolen. "Getting useless things" or "If you throw them away, you will get 10 times as much"
[//Note: In the chapter, SZS character Harumi buys comics for which she gets a ton of money. When she tries to throw it away, a sign informs her that throwing away money results in you getting 10 times as much.] - even the wording is the exact same. And what is more, even the joke that it was turned down because you can't publish something like this by today's standards was the same. (The joke about getting money from beggars in the park). You could maybe say I got caught in the logic, but feeling both shameful and that I wanted to apologize, I really wanted to die for the first time in a long while.
And on top of it all, the work it overlapped it was that "Doraemon".
- No matter how famous it may be, you also don't steal. It comes in the low volume number of 12, which you can't say I haven't read of course.
[//Note: The original Doraemon comic series really is not that long. What's so friggin' long running is the cartoon they made out of it.] But I don't remember it at all. What I'm ashamed of is that I thought I had developed one good story in a long time and even drew this chapter with some self-confidence, it should have sold well and been made good... I thought of it as an "odd story even for this world", but with "Doraemon"... That even the big F-Sensei maniac Maeda didn't notice it honestly brings me to my knees. However, that there is a strong resemblance between the contents is certainly true. As it is that way, I hereby apologize to my predecessor. There also came some protests about pointing out the resemblance to the editorial department. Thus, I sent a sealed copy of the issue in question, together with an explanation of the whole story and space to answer to the copyright holders at Shôgakukan's Doraemon Room (specialists for everything related to Doraemon) to make an inquiry. When I did so, I received the following answer:
"We have also consultated the copyright holders (Fujiko Productions), but since it is clear that it happened unintentional, there is no problem at all. In this business, it can happen that things are similar all off sudden. It might be that Doraemon has become your second nature and was buried deep down in your memories, but this is an honor. We thank for you contacting us by yourself."

- This is how it was. Somehow it seems as if it was me how pointed it out first, I'm sorry. They also were so kind to say that there is no problem in publishing it in a book, but I of course did not. But if I don't publish it, you could go against it, saying I'm trying to hide it. That's why I want all people who can read that number of magazine to take a look at it by all means. And I want them to pass their own judgement. Is this stealing or is it a resemblance by coincidence? There may also be people saying I tried to make a parody, but if it's supposed to be a parody, I draw it in a way that makes it easy to understand. If I steal, I draw it in a way that makes it harder to understand. Or wait, I'd rather die than steal. Anyway, if things overlap like this, I become too afraid to be able to draw comic. And that's why in a short while, I want to consult Mr. Yasutaka Tsutsui.
[//Note: A Japanese author. Anime fans might know him as the writer of the original novels to Paprika and Toki o kakeru Shôjo.] I want to hear from both the sides of brain science and specialists if it happens, that things you read in the past remain in your subconscious and you end up publishing them as your own creation.
Well, since I am also prone to forgetting things I even drew myself and draw the same joke again, it just has to be the case that my brain is weak. I am really sorry.

The last thing he mentions certainly is right though; after reading Katte ni Kaizô, I noticed how much of this Kumeta reuses in Zetsubou-sensei. In this case, it's his own work though, so it should not be a problem of copyright. [/quote]

Exactly. For example, the cartoon Samurai Jack's basic premise was very similar to Frank Miller's comic book "Ronin", however no issue was raised because the SJ creator admitted he had never read Ronin. And that's the thing, writers can't be expected to be familiar with every little plot/subplot in existence, and similarities are going to crop up all the time.

Wow.... Reading that really made me want to cry a little. Honestly. I really feel bad for him....

I wonder if Kodansha US will publish the chapter here? If not (which the probably won't), I really hope they publish this afterword. I love the Zetsubou Sensei anime, but I haven't really gotten around to reading much of the manga (though I have up to the current US release in my backlog). I think I'll read some this weekend....

I don't think they could publish that chapter in translated versions since the foreign publishers usually take manuscripts and stuff that are used for the book version. I wouldn't expect Kodansha or Pika Édition (the french publisher) to obtain masters used for the magazine... Especially for SZS, where the magazine version differs from the one in the comic books (there are ocassional redraws, changes of signs etc. and 2 additional pages in the books).

Since they usually translate Kumeta's "paper blogs" at the end of the volumes, I'm sure they'll translate this one as well. It was a part of the "paper blog" in volume 27.
