Cour! Pokemon just squeaks in at 10, but looks close to relegation, where One Piece is still up there in the top 5. Could Pikachu's batteries be starting to run low? Wink Surprised to see Detective Conan comfortably on that list, as is Suite Precure.

I wonder why they release this every week or so, as the Top10 involves lots of little kids shows or other family shows that don't even get translated into English. It would be much more useful to 95% of fans to have listings more related to what comes in streams, etc.

So I suppose that would be more related to DVD rankings. I doubt the various companies would share total unique IPs for streaming shows as a comparison...

Why? In the past 10 years or so has there been a TV ranking(excluding national disasters, holidays, or sporting event) that didn't have most of the very same shows in roughly the same order?

No streaming company creates such reports and the streaming sites do not have uniform or regulated body to do so on their behalf like Broadcast TV does.
This report is done weekly by Video Research in Japan and includes a lot more shows than what is seen here. Nielsen creates a similar list for American TV. ANN takes the bit about anime because it is seen as relevant news for this site.

Plus when it comes to American anime, their 'numbers' are a trade secret. So don't expect to see anything from an American distributor with anything more than a vague ranking.

Pocket Monsters Best Wishes tends to fluxuate between 5.0 (low key episodes, which this week's was, since it was the first filler episode in awhile) and up to 8.0 (the Team Rocket Invades Raimon City arc episode from two months ago)

That's not really surprising. Like, at all. They're always there. Along with 9/10ths of the list pretty much.

In checking out that week's ranking it is interesting see how long run series such as Shin Chan and especially Doraemon are still holding their own in the top 10, these two shows have been going on for so many years, some people (in Japan) who have watched it as preteens are now all grown up with families of there own and watching it with their kids or grand kids I bet.

Fear not, there's some good news: Japanese viewers tuning out, turning off their TVs.
Quote:
Whether for these or for other reasons, the members of Japan’s younger generation are fast losing their interest in viewing the boob tube. Networks across the board are noticing that even the shows capturing the highest viewer ratings in any given time slot report increasingly lower figures.

Among teens and people in their 20s, the declines were startling. Teens in 2005 had viewed TV for an average of 106 minutes per day; in 2010, the figure had dropped to 70 minutes, a decline of over 30%. For the 20 to 29 age group, viewing time fell from a daily average of 104 minutes to 76.

Japan’s younger generation, long criticized for “watching too much TV,” had apparently managed to pare half an hour a day from their viewing time without further nagging from their elders.

It also appears that after the switchover to digital broadcasting last July 24, a considerable number of households ceased watching TV entirely.

A survey by the Cabinet Office saw this coming. In 2005, the number of all TV units, including analog models with cathode ray tubes, per 100 households was 255—in other words, 2.5 TVs per home. In March of this year, the number had declined to 239. When the switchover from analog arrived, some people made the decision to “graduate” from TV and dispense with their sets entirely. Some 98,000 households notified NHK that they were canceling their subscriptions.

Expect TV ratings to gradually decline in the future - the youths are finally weaning off the idiot box. Laughing

They're just moving the content of the idiot box to the computer monitor.

TV will meld completely with the internet.
