I just gotta let this out my chest........
This series is TWISTED, and I mean that in a good way.....I mean, I'm not gonna give anything away here, but I've seen the first 12 episodes (will watch the 13th, so no spoiler pls.), and this series literally threw me off my seat and made me say HSWTF!!!........ The first few episodes makes you think that this series is for kids, but pretty soon you get an inkling that there's something dark going on here with the subplots of death and depression lurking nearby....... And then you get to episode twelve, and allllll hell breaks loose!!!....lemme tells ya, this series aint for kids...uh-uh...no-no ....and even though they don't directly show the actual killings, the way they IMPLY it makes it even more disturbing methinks...... .....Hands down, this is one of the best series I've seen in a while....I just gotta let that out of my chest since the scenes in that series ARE STILL IN MY FREAKIN' HEAD!........ .....and with a pretty in-depth plot, I'm hooked!!!! ...and I was wondering what do others think of this show..... thanks for reading!! |

I'm a giant fan of Shadow Star *the original manga that I'm guessing is called Narutaru in japan* and I actually found the anime by accident while downloading Naruto. I flipped out, and was so happy untill I watched it. >.> It made it all kiddy, and left out a ton of the things that made the manga mature. I never watched past ep 2.
I'm finding more and more that I hate anime when I've know the manga first. |

Well from what I can tell.. It was shown on a channel called "Kids station."
I've enjoyed what I've seen so far.. I would like to check out the manga but I'm going to wait. I heard one of the newer volumes that were released were censored when released in other states. Then I had heard someone from the american company saying they weren't sure if they were going to censor it or not. That's the one thing that's keeping me from buying it though. The anime does happen to have one of the most misleading opening themes though.

Yeah, I guess you're right there....I haven't seen the manga yet, but I figure it would be more graphic than the anime even though the stuff past episode 2 is pretty graphic as well..... in fact, I like the anime so much, that I'm planning to buy the manga!!...hopefully they haven't censored the parts (according to Lum).....so I guess I'm the other way around then, I watch the anime and then I buy the manga (which is something I don't do often anyway...).... |

It's not as graphic as in the manga, taking place mostly in shadows, but they do have the "test tube" scene in episode 12. |

Okay, now that I have more of episode twelve on my harddrive, I can say that the infamous sequence from volume six that was so graphic and shocking that Glénat, the French publisher, aborted the series after volume two once they found out about it (while Studio Proteus is getting Mohiro Kitoh to redraw it for the North American market), does appear in the episode, though, obviously, it's not as graphic (the girl's wearing lingerie).

So they *are* editing it? (Basically..) Eh.. I may have to pass on it after all. ^^; |

The sequence is just unpublishable "as is" in North America. The German publisher might have been able to get away with it (well, they drew in skimpy underwear), but, in North America... no way.

Do watch more of the anime. It's quite cute and kiddy and all in the first few epsiodes, but later on it becomes anything but kiddy... unless you think stuff like spoiler[raping a girl with a test tube as "ijime" or blowing off half of a guy's head in close-up] is kiddy... I also started to watch Narutaru because I liked Shadow Star (though sadly I haven't got too far in the manga), and in the end I wasn't disappointed. (Not to mention the end doesn't really look like an "end".... I'm hoping there'll be a second season or something.) |

Sorry for getting aboard really, really late, but I just started reading this manga. I found out that the German editon has two versions, but even the censored one would still equal commercial suicide in the US. There's a couple of comparisons here (Warning: mature material). |

Pardon, but there doesn't seem to be any Naru Taru related on that page. But is it THIS you are referring to? One thing I noted about the anime was that it doesn't seem to deviate that much from the manga. And that made me worry a bit since Shadowstar the manga is really good but the anime seemed to end without a proper resolution. Can somebody say if the manga really ends where the anime does? |

Have no fear, the manga goes on for a long time after the anime ends. |

Wow. "Narutaru" sounds awesome from the way you guys are talking about it. Central Park Media is the company that is releasing this title in the U.S., right? I've come across the name "Narutaru" a couple of times but didn't know what it was about and wasn't interested at first. After reading this forum about an hour ago, I looked up some information about this title and now I seriously want this anime bad.
Going a little off topic, CPM also released the anime "Alien Nine" in which "Narutaru" seems to share many similarities. When I first bought the entire 4-episode series of "Alien Nine" on a single dvd, I had no idea what it was about. After I watched the series, I was completely shocked by the unexpected dark nature of it. I later bought the "Ultimate Box Set" containing the dvd and the 3 manga graphic novels. I watched the series a couple of times and read all of the manga including the last novel released separately. I greatly enjoyed "Alien Nine" overall and wanted a continuation to the anime ever since I finished the series. I am now extremely excited over this "niche" title. I am glad that CPM is around to release strange and unique titles such as "Narutaru." But I am rather annoyed that the manga might not be released in the U.S., and even if it does get released, I would not appreciate the editing at all. Now that "Narutaru" should be out about now, this is the title I can't wait to get my hands on, next to "Elfen Lied." I must watch this series no matter what. |
