I had some extra bucks floating around so a few friends and I went out to go DVD shopping. I was looking around FYE and saw the thin-pack (or what ever they call it) Rahxaphon box set for only $86.00! I immediately bought this with out thinking about the consequences… As the day wore down we worked our way to a best buy, and I happened to stumble on an other think-pack rahxaphon box set. Curious I peeked at the price and it was only $50.00
 !!! Which brings me to my point, why the hell is there so much inconsistency in the pricing of Anime?!?! I wasted 36.00!! That's enough money to get me started on an other box set!! I was so angry! I couldn't even find the receipt so I could return the old one and buy the cheaper one! Has anything like this ever happened to you guys? Note to self always buy anime at best buy from now on.

Yeah, I understand what your talking about that's why, as you said, I'm always sure to shop around before I buy something, I've had the same thing happen several times, which is why I typically buy all my stuff at Best Buy since they tend to be $5-$15 dollars cheaper than MSRP

If you notice, FYE has mabye 2 feet of shelf space devoted to anime, and its mostly VHS tapes of Dragonball or whatever.
BestBuy is much better a place to buy anime, since they are a bigger store than FYE, and can afford work with the manufacturer to get a lower price. Places to avoid (as they sell at SRP) SunCoast Media-Play Sam Goody FYE Another thing, effectively half of all the anime and other DVD's (127 items) I've bought have come from the base AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange System) BX, and they sell anime 25-50% off its SRP, and I've also been noticing that the anime they get is slowly expanding. (even the shelf space for all animation is 8' long and 6' high, fully half of that is anime, and is slowly bleeding over into the other sections). Oh, and I recently bought Fruits Basket vol. 1 from the BX for $8.97, 50% off the store price of $17.99 and a full 70.1% off SRP. They are trying to get rid some DVDs that have been sitting on the shelves for quite some time. I bought the following boxsets from them (all of the following figures come from DVD profiler): Burst Angel starter set - SRP $39.98, bought for $22.95 (42.6% off SRP) Complete Collections from the BX: Escaflowne: The Perfect Collection - SRP $99.99, bought for $54.95 (45% off SRP) Excel Saga - SRP: $89.98, bought for $49.95 (44.5% off SRP) RahXephon Complet Collection - SRP $89.98, bought for $49.95 (44.5% off SRP) Overall: buying from TheRightStuf has saved me 66.67% off SRP (1 reduced price Please Teacher starter set - bought for $20 from its $60 SRP) buying from Waldenbooks has saved me 60% off SRP (GTO boxset 2 for $40) buying from Wal-Mart has saved me 58.69% off SRP (granted these two titles were in the $5.50 bin and old titles - 60 Classic Cartoons from the 30's - 60's and Muppets Take Manhatten) buying from AAFES has saved me 41.56% off SRP buying from BestBuy has saved me 37.85% off SRP buying from DeepDiscountDVD.com has saved me 35.77% off SRP buying from AnimEigo has saved me 28.22% off SRP buying from MilitaryExchange has saved me 16.78% off SRP (2 items) buying from GameStop has saved me 16.67% off SRP (1 Iten) buying from Suncoast has cost me 0.99% over SRP So generally, you can see where the best place to buy is |

As I've said in other threads, Suncoast is not that bad on prices anymore. On major releases in particular their prices are now very competitive with Best Buy. (Three weeks ago when I bought seven new titles on one day - and no, I don't normally do that - Suncoast had equal or better price on three of them and had a 4th that BB didn't even carry.)
There's also a newer chain out there (well, new to my area, anyway) called Frye's, which is an electronics superstore worth checking out if it's in your area. They stock as broad a selection of anime as anyone - even some older and hentai stuff - and prices are competitive with BB. |

Right now I get most of my anime either from online stores, eBay is sometimes good for single DVDs (e.g. RahXephon), or Best Buy. |

Well, around here, don't know if their prices are different but anime is usually quite a bit more expensive at Suncoast. They often will have a "sale" price on the newest stuff, but it quickly goes up to 25-30 afterwards. The catch is that Suncoast usually will have what you're looking for, where as with Best Buy it's more a matter of luck.

Well, the Suncoast here in the mall at Shreveport, LA is still pretty bad on prices here, they don't have sales, and if they do have a sale, its only $5 off the prices, still making it the most expensive. |

Huh...that's odd, the only time I have trouble finding stuff at the Best Buy near me is if it's older, they're usually really good about getting all the newer anime releases in and usually enough so that they don't sell out quickly, except with titles like FMA of course |

Best Buys tend to be hit or miss. If I run down to Burnsville I have a much better chance of finding the anime I'm looking for there, but the one on my way home in Richfield almost never has new anime releases up the day they come out and their anime shelves are pretty bare comparatively. Now there's another store a ways out that tends to always have a huge anime selection, but it's a good drive.

^The one we have here in Duluth is excellent as far as new titles are concerned if you want something older than two years you're screwed though. They frequently put their titles out days and sometimes a week before the release date too.
The majority of my anime I buy on the net and at Best Buy. I go to Suncoast if I want to special order something or buy anime music though. Their Replay card can save you a little too. |

You should make a graph out of that. The kids loves graphs.  Anyhoot, a couple weeks I drop by the PX at Ft. Leonard Wood and had bigger selction of anime, where it use to Dragonball Z, Evangelion, GTO, and Saint Tail. While I was in Iraq though, I got the Anglic Layer Vol 1 Box and Super Milk Chan 1-3, even with the little room they had for other DVDs, execpt for Kuwait.

I do look at DDD for boxsets. Now that I have decided to start buying more boxsets, and maybe go back and buy the boxset for releases that still have them available. As for RightStuf, normal prices there are $5-7.5 off SRP other than their daily deals and weekly specials and some heavily discounted items that are old and don't sell fast, I'll usually buy because of that.
