Just asking for opinions mate.
BTW: If this series was really between the 2 movies, it wouldn't really make sense either. The Major in the second movie seems to have the same petit body as she had in the first movie. |

Anyone else seen 2ng GIG? The first season is better, but 2nd GIG is great. |

There you go again with the Movies
She lacks a body of her own in the second movie due to what happened in the end of the first if I understood everything correct. The one she is using at the end is a pleasure model she dled herself to to assist Batou, when she was done with that she left that body. SAC has nothing to do with the Movies and what happens in them. They are both (SAC and the movies) based on the manga but got nothing to do with each other. coolerimmortal, 2nd GIG is not so bad

 ? I'll clear this up once and for all. In one of the DVD interviews I distinctly remember the director saying something along the lines of this, "SAC has nothing to do with the movies what so ever, it's like... its own universe."
Edit: Oh... I see,  it seems we've been arguing the same point. Yes, they occur (in the sense of time) in line like you stated, but again, like you stated, they have nothing to do with each other; save the characters and select elements in the GitS world (cyborizations, AI, etc.).

GitS: SAC is awesome. I liked it better than the movies (though they were very good), mainly because of the Complex episodes (though a lot of the Stand Alone episodes certainly aren't bad). The Laughing Man storyline is just so amazingly well-done, and I gotta say that understanding all of it is a lot harder than understanding something like Paranoia Agent; there are a lot of very subtle things that can easily be missed and, even when you notice them, it's very hard to put them together and understand it. For example, spoiler[a character named Fukami that is shown for a very brief talk with Togusa turns out to be Nanao's killer (his face never shown as he kills Nanao), and he's shown at the very end of the last episode; his role is never told to you straight out, but possible interpretations include him being the "original" Laughing Man that sent the email that Aoi found that started up the whole Stand Alone Complex against the micromachine scandal.]
"Stand Alone Complex" doesn't at all refer to the fact that the series takes place in a universe alternate of the movies; rather, it refers to two things: the episodes, as joel_s95387 explained, as well as the main theme of the series, which will be explained at the end of the last episode with Kusanagi's and Aoi's talk. |

In fact, the best thing about the second series is the way it takes all the conclusions (such as they are) from the first series, warps them subtly, and draws you deeper into the philosophical underpinnings of the universe. In a very real sense, GitS:SAC and the 2nd GIG are about identity and the meaning of identity in a networked society - much more so than the movies. - abunai |

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex more closely follows the manga than anything else. The major's dress and appearance as well as some of the plot points were also taken from the Masamune Shirow's manga. Also, if I remember right, "Stand Alone Complex" is mentioned by the major in the last two episodes as a type of mental/social condition, hence the title. And, I haven't seen second gig yet but I can't wait for it.

"Stand Alone Complex" basically refers to how the Laughing Man occurrence started with a simple email, and there essentially was no "original" Laughing Man. There were many copycats, however; thus it is a phenomenon with a complex that stands alone-- copycats without an original to support them. |

GITS:Stand Alone Complex is one awesome anime series.when i
saw the 1st Ghost In The Shell movie i could see why the movie was good.i like the opening intro music and animation in the movie was great.the series is diffrent from the movie,but it's great.i saw the series on Adult Swim and wanted to see more as i saw it.i enjoyed the Tachikoma's alot.my fav character in the series is Togusa,he's the least "cyberized" member of the section 9 team and the only family man.when it comes to investigative work,he knows hoe to get the job done.another aspect of the series i like is the music,Yoko Kanno does some of the best work when it comes to music.my fav track in the GITS OST 1 is "Inner Universe".it's got a nice tone in it and the whole song itself is awesome.can't wait for 2nd gig to come to Adult swim in november. |

Tagusha is my favorite too.As for the alternate universe,it is a very common occurence,even in dc and marvel comics.I think they call it "elseworld".

Are the Tachikoma Days not included on CN's broadcast? They are so funny. I've avoided the CN versions since the DTS editions have an amazing audio track, of which I'm a little more fond of the Japanese dub, and are released in a nice timely manner. The SAC DVDs also have neat little interviews. Definately one of the best series in recent times.
