I'd suggest checking out RahXephon it's also a mech series deals with an "end of the world" scenario, as well as the romance element. The characters are good the storyline entertaining and it also has some good mech action. Not as bug-crunchingingly gory though. It's only $60 for the thinpack collection too.

You could take a look to Genesis Climber Mospeada whose Blue Gender is the 'spiritual child' overally: less developped and far older, it remains a cool mecha show without any pretention and is worth seeing IMO

Humans in Mechs fighting Giant Creatures in a Post Apocalyptic planet Earth... Shouldn't be too hard
Gunaparade March has a similar begining but then deviates into a love story around Disc 2. Gundam 0083 is one of my favorite Gundam OAVs so I suggest you check it out considering you've seen most Gundam shows. I agree with RahXephon and maybe you should also check out Neon Genesis Evangelion, it too has a thinpack, or maybe Fafner considering it's the [most recent/has better animation]. |

I have already seen fafner it is on my list, im going to consider gun parade march, and rahxephon, evangelion im not that interested in it, dont really like seeing 14 year olds in some intense drama, and starts thinking and talking about sex.
Thanks for the suggestions. You can still list more. |

Starship Troopers: Roughnecks would fufill that. It's not Japanese anime, but it's about the military fighting bug creature and has a good deal of what you asked for. |

Rah and EVA are great, but I'd tend to agree with Frankman. Just because it's not Anime per se, don't let that fool you. This is actually not a bad show, from what I've seen, and far less campy than the movie. |

I was gonna recommend Roughnecks but I wasn;t sure if people were gonna take too kindly to it considering this is an anime website and somehardcore fanboys get mad.
Oh and personally I really didn't like Gunparade March I think highly due to that I was looking for an action based anime like Blue Gender but if you go in expecting a love story, it might not be as bad. I really like Blue Gender too and it is one of my favorite series and the reason I decided to pick up Gunparade March, the Media Blasters trailer made it seem like non stop action with mechs fighting bugs that have overrun the earth, which is what I loved from Blue Gender. If you decide to pick up Gunparade March I suggest you go to Best Buy because they have all 3 DVDs for $20 in a tin box, well atleast they do at my local BB. I've heard some people say they really enjoyed Gunparade March though. My bad I was writing about RahXephon and Eva and Fafner suddenly popped into my head and I wrote it down without looking at your list again. Blue Submarine No.6 is another series I recommend. It also has a "future over-run by a creature" but it takes place mostly in water. There are action scenes on land and mechs appear once in a while. I know the first episode has a scene with a mech but I don't remember the rest. Kino's Journey is a series I have to recommend. It's not really like Blue Gender though. It's about a traveler who is put in different situations and there is always a lesson to be taught. If you are open minded and willing to pay attention, this series is very thought provoking. Some people, my girlfiend, thought the first episode was lame and didn't give the rest of the series a chance but if you stick through, I guarantee it is one of the best series you will ever see in your life. It's also available in a very affordable thinpack but I picked up all 4 volumes on release dates because I read an article on Newtype about Kino that made me fall in love with the series before even watching the first episode. |

Ditto. I actually thought someone might go Mike Tyson and come to my house and bite my ear off. I know this is slightly off-topic, but did anyone notice/was bothered by all the (sort of)spoiler[sexual innuendo] the series seemed to portray? I remember discussing it on the [as] boards BITD (back in the day) and was a little surprised when I saw Blue Gender on VHS in 2002. I only had seen the first 6 or 8 eps. because I wanted the DVD package. Man . . . it was a gorefest, but I didn't expect what I mentioned above. |

It's way more than innuendos in the unedited version of Blue Gender, especially in the last volume. If you first saw it on television like I did and then bought the DVDs there's quite a difference. spoiler[There's several scenes in the series that would qualify as softcore porn.]

It reminded me of when I was on [as] and people kept thinking when spoiler[Marlene kissing Eugene (God why was I thinking it was Koji?) it meant she liked him in Episode 6]. I remember having to explain to them the details of Marlene's rather harsh upbringing (thanks to the [as] edits) and tell them what really was going on (spoiler[Marlene had been somewhat brainwashed by a guy from her training base that kissing was a way to wish soliders luck or something]). That's why I stopped after 6-8 eps uncut eps., I knew I'd want the DVD. Too bad the package with the movie is so frickin' expensive right now. |

Actually all that sexual inuendo happened all in one episode, so that is why it is easy to ignore and forget, nothing happens till episode 24 when they get it on for about 20 seconds.
I would not really say the the inuendo was useless or anything, it actually made some sense of haveing it since, these people wanted to feel alive, and also wanted to feel like their oldselfs and get away from the fighting. Now that i have answered your question lets get back on topic. Im still looking for shows close to blue gender, and have not found that much, the closest i have seen interms of characters would be berserk. I am considering getting rahxephon, and maybe, just maybe gun parade march. By the way the animes you reccomend does not have to be overall similar to Blue gender. It can be similar as a single catagorie i.e Berserk can be just anime that can be similar to Blue gener in catagory of characters, or as previously stated Gunparade march can be similar to Blue gender in the catagory of story As long the show has action and mixed with drama, any anime can be fine. |

$40 at DeepDiscountDVD.com and free shipping too, that's where I got it, great site. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=FUN005250
Well then, I'd suggest: Gungrave- If you liked Hellsing and Trigun then I suggest this one as it shares some of the same character designs and production crew. It's about two mens rise to power in a mafia-like organization and what it does to their friendship. Very good in the action, and story departments with some good characters. Read Or Die/ROD the TV- These shows have some really great inovative action, as well as focosing on the characters as well. The OVA should be watched before the television series though. X TV- Unlike the horendous film this series focuses heavily on the great characters and is packed with loads of drama and action. One man comes to Tokyo who's destiny is to decide the fate of the world. Will he choose to join the Dragons of Heaven and save humanity, or the Dragons of Earth and destroy everything so the world can be reborn. |
