she didn't have giant boobs for like, half the series, not to mention, she wore clothing that covered her cleavage all the way up to the second half of what, alabasta? there would be the odd moment where she wore a sports bra for a panel or two, but it barely registered as fanservice and was never lingered on, no close-ups of boobs, no panels of nami doing orgasmic blushing, no upskirts, etc. (for the record, the anime did add fanservice to the series that was never there in the manga, so if you saw the anime first, it's way less noticeable). around thriller bark, the boobs had doubled in size, the clothing on both girls started to disappear with every arc, and all of a sudden there were shower scenes with invisible men licking nami all over. it was a pretty noticeable change, commonly attributed to oda getting married around that time. there was some, but it was very rare, and just the odd idea of sexuality here and there, but nowadays, it's pretty hard to ignore with nami never wearing a shirt, and usopp motor-boating her, etc. lol, no wonder sanji's nose won't stop bleeding post-timeskip. |

Haven't seen the original in a long time, but I do remember boobage in Arlong arc, and fanservice in Whisky Peak. Little Garden had her clothes ripped off, Alabasta and Skypeia too, Water 7.. pretty much every arc since Arlong, which is when she officially joined, and I'm sure she had a few moments before then, seducing pirates and whatnot, but I don't remember specifics. So yeah.... Nami existing pretty much has been fanservice since the early episodes. That's pretty much all she and Robin tend to be around for it seems.

i really don't agree that she was purely fanservice at all, until the past few years in the series, but okay.
also, wiggling your shoulders and winking doesn't qualify as 'fanservice' to me, and that's more or less the extent of what she does during the alabasta, whiskey peak, etc. ..where did you see boobage in the arlong arc? i honestly think the way the series is now is distorting your memory of it. i used to watch the series all the time with my girlfriend, and we'd both comment on how little fanservice, if any, there was present in it compared to other shonen at the time. for a series set on the water, nami doesn't even don a bikini for several hundred chapters.. |
