Lordy, lordy @ that Oreimo price, import or not (nice stuff, though)…
Nisemonogatari's on the other hand, considering Bakemonogatari's price, I have to wonder if that lower price is either due to Bake's greater episode count or because of Nise's lesser popularity. I've been contemplating whether to get the series or not, since I didn't like it terribly well. I'd only do it for completion's sake (that is, if the rest of the Monogatari Series turns out well), but $119 is a pretty enticing price point… |

1.5 cour plus PET sleeve case. Good thing I held out on buying the OreImo DVD sets. I'll definitely be picking this up instead along with Nisemonogatari. Good thing I also held off on Kara no Kyoukai last year as that BD release really isn't worth both the price and the upscaled video. As for how Japanese people put up with these prices: A) get your parents to buy them B) Get a job and be frugal on everything else in life. Strategy works far better in the US, especially if you cut down on types of food intake and don't drink alcohol, smoke, etc... which is where I believe most Americans "lose" money on. Also, saving on TV and home phone utility bills is another big plus nowadays.
Because they have their Japanese parent company backing them and the demand is clearly there? |

Oreimo clearly deserves a great English dub cast. I can just see Monica Rial playing Kuroneko, come on guys...it'll be so epic!

Aniplex is the most successful anime company so they won't be going out of business anytime soon |

The good thing about SAO is you'll save $400 by not buying the second season |

You can save even more by not buying it at all. |

Touché. But in all seriousness, I cringed just now. I've been waiting for and wanting this blu-ray, but wow. More power to whoever buys it, but I think I'm just gonna stick with Crunchyroll and my HDMI cord... |

I find it incredible how fast I went from "MUST BUY" to "fudge that" for the Oreimo set once I found out the price.
While I'll be laughing at the sight of people paying hundreds of dollars for that, I'm somewhat worried about how they'll handle the release of Magi since it's a 4 cour series.
Thanks for reminding me. I seriously thought this was just going to be a Type-Moon thing. I'm guessing we'll be hearing about a ~$500 Gurren Lagann BD set release soon. |

in all honesty would you want on your resume that you voiced in an anime called "my little sister can't be this cute" for future dubbing roles? Please Keep in mind this is 4/5 show for me but it just doesn't merit a dub nor does it need one because of niche audience. Now something I do find interesting is that Oreimo is going to be airing on Australasian t.v. |

Magi's also not a 40k-per-disc seller, zero fears of otaku waiting to jump on it in lieu of expensive Japanese sets. I can't see SAO costing less than $100. Per 12 episodes. And that's the pre-order sale price. I find that whatever it does end up costing will be more telling and informative for what the pricing scheme means to anime in the west than THE DOKES, the Gataris, or other AoA/AoJ releases so far. SAO has a wider reach and more mainstream appeal to lesser/casual/seldom anime fans. Those types of people will absolutely not be ponying up $200+ even if they consider themselves megafans. Really? Huh.
I was worried because of the the length (well what I thought was the length of it) of it. I didn't think that it would be about as much as SAO per episode. Since I thought it was 4 cour, I thought they would release it in quite a few volumes. Last edited by Pokenatic on Sat Jan 19, 2013 1:58 am; edited 1 time in total |

Magi's a daytime kids show not a late-night otaku one like Oreimo or Nisemonogatari. It'll be priced about the same as other kids shows One Piece/Naruto/Fairy Tail/Fullmetal Alchemist no doubt. As for the prices of these sets, well.. can't really deny 200 hardcore purchasers are more valuable than 1000 casual one. A lot of nerd-centric things follow this line of logic. Still, I imagine this and the Panty and Stocking BDs are just signs to never buy DVD-only releases because a year later they'll get a BD even if they say they won't. |

Costs too much, and the Oreimo set is bare bones compared to the Niseimonogatari set.

That's my thinking as well. In which case, I would have rather they charged more for the subs rather than less for a set that I don't know if I want to buy. |
