To answer my own question, yes it made me start takin my drums seriously. Because of bands like the Pillows and Asian Kung Generation I am now in 2 bands (a hard/punk rock group-punk in the Clash sense- and soon a Jazz band with a saxophonist friend of mine). The 2 bands mentioned above are 90% of the Japanese music I listen to now-a-days (I hate pop and but occasionaly listen to some Orange Range) since I branched out into American music that my friends recomened to me (STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO) and just felt like sharing how J- music influenced my life.
Oh and a shout out to Beck, which, while VERY positive in its picture of an indie band, helped me in to join these 2 bands. How have you been influenced by J-Music? |

Hmm well I’m sure whether this actually qualifies for j-music, but because of the harmonica solo in cowboy bebop, in episode 5 (sympathy for the devil) it made me take up harmonica. So anime and the music in anime has influenced me quite a bit. I’ve been playing now for almost 3 years. I can see how some j-music such as orange range or anything can make people (epically younger fans) take up guitar and drums ect.

Not at all, it's music, I haven't found any of it to be of any significantly greater quality than what I hear around the rest of the world. I've heard a lot of great j-music, and a lot of poor j-music, but I hear a lot of great and poor music from across the world as well. I mean, when I hear j-music I don't hear a lot that I haven't heard much that doesn't have a similar counterpart outside of Japan aside from some more traditional Japanese music which I'm honestly not that fond of.

Well I can't say J-Music influenced me but I like some it lke The FMA opening and an Inuyasha opening and an Inuyasha ending and the Gundam Seed opening. I especially like the rythem of J-Music....other than that Metallica and Billy Talent are my favourite bands.

The nature of most Japanese music is definetly my preference over music over here. I grew up in Japan, so Japanese influence on my life has been such that it reminds of while I lived there, and makes want to go back, too. When I finish college I will.

Lets see, my ipod is filled with only japanese music as of now (512mb shuffle) and 1/3 of my music library is in japanese(3gigs) and my parents make fu of me/ think im in a severe depression because i'm not like the rest of teens my age in this rich snobby preppy town.

-I hope this works. My first time on a forum and all-
J-Pop and J-Rock,well all foreign music really, hasn't really influenced me moreover helped me remember that music is the same everywhere and that even though we don't speak the same language we have the same feelings and the same way we express them. It's one of those things that makes me feel like people from other countries aren't as alien as they seem, like there are no language or ethnical barriers to make people from different countries feel different. heh...thats a bit much..

Probably the artist who has influenced me the most is Paku Romi. I know I'm pretty much the only person on earth who can stand her singing, but many of her songs have helped me through a lot. Listening to her music has also helped me realize that it doesn't matter if your own voice is 'perfect' as long as you sing with passion and you have something to say, and it's encouraged me to keep up with my singing and songwriting.

For me, it got me liking music again. I was really in a slump, listening to old stuff, since I didn't like the new stuff MTV was playing. Then I saw Teen Titans, and hearrd it's theme song by Puffy AmiYumi, and I suddenly liked music again!
I've also felt I've really connected with many of the lyrics to Ayumi Hamasaki's songs. My sn is actually based off of one of her songs, Hana from her Song for Xx album. |

It helped me learn useful everyday Japanese phrases. How could I possibly function in Japan without "anata no namida," "watashi no kokoro," and "kimi o aishiteiru"?

J-Music is the only kind of music that has ever actually had the ability to change my mood. Aka no Seijaku by Ishida Yoko, for instance, is the latest in a long list of J-Music songs that can make me depressed and taciturn, sometimes for as long as the rest of the day. Creepy.

It really has influenced me.
I copied my hair after the sound director/composer of Gravitation (and composer of some Gundam Seed songs and one Rurouni Kenshin song, same person), now it's short and bleached blonde. I am determined to work for him someday (he's a producer), either as a singer or manager of a band :]. You can find him on here under "Daisuke Asakura". I have to talk about him, research him, and listen to him everyday, as well as his producees/old bands. I love him and his music that much :3. |
