I've been hearing good things about this series, but the rating in this forum lean more towards meh. So I decided to make a quick topic asking a couple of questions to see if I will purchace this series.
1. What do you think of the series? 2. Do the individual DVD releases contain something worthwile? Translation Notes, Interviews, etc. 3. Does it have a conclusion that does this series justice? Or is it an open-ended ending that leaves you with a sense of incompleteness? (No Spoilers Please) Thanks to whom-ever replies. |

Overall I didn't enjoy this series, I wanted the characters and the story to grow up. But to be honest I was expecting a dark tale of the Shinsengumi, much like what is show in the Samurai X OAV. You will not find that here, I say 85% (at least) is humor that wasn't really all that funny.
I don't really remember (I watch it on netflix) and I don't there was too much probably trailer and clean opening/ending. I don't know for sure so take my word on this part. But then again if you are planning to buy this series the Thin-pack don't have anything on them. Hence why it comes in a 5 disc set instead of the original 7 disc set.
So for me there is all this build up and then the series ends where I wanted it to start, needless to say not my favorite series of all time. If you like lighter tone series I recommend it, otherwise try the manga (I am not sure if that any good but I have heard it better then the anime). So my final input on this series is a renter, and I am glad I did I on netflix. Well that is half true I found the box with Vol 1 at suncoast (during the closing sale) for like 8 bucks so I took a chance. I want my 8 dollars back, but my problem is once I start a series even if its really bad I want to finish it. So once I got back on Netflix I got the remainding volumes. Thank you DeltaKiral. I think with just you're opinion... I'll pass on the series.
With the 15+ rating, I was expecting something darker which is why I was interested, the blood splattered on the title and "mature" illustrations caught my eye. But if it's supposed to be mainly about comedy, I just finished reading the "last word" on all 7 volumes in the AoD reviews and they also said it was funny but like I've said many times on this forum; I'm not a big fan of Japanese humor, then I don't think It'll keep me interested for long. I know my friend in Nevada has it, so I'll just wait for him to come back in town. I was trying to make a quick choice since it is selling for really cheap at $56 for all 7 volumes. I still encourage others to post their thoughts because you never know if someone else might find this thread useful, or I may even change my mind later today since it's only 3am... |

I don't know what your excuse but I have insomnia so I am always on this site and watching anime/playing games at the strangest god-forsaken hours. But nonetheless you have a point other people should still post their opinion because someone else might have a different view that will help someone else who might be looking into this series, it just wasn't really my cup of tea. [OT] Around this time I like to watch anime* (ZOE - Escaflowne), old TV shows* (Ninja Turtles - Thundercats), or play video games* (Paper Mario 2 - .hack). Right now I'm watching ThunderCats and online.
I was surfing through rightstuf when I was thinking of purchasing the Peacemaker series but I'm glad I didn't cause I just got back from a trip and don't have much money left. I'm still going to order the Lain set though. I close at work tomorrow night, and go to work right when my girlfriend gets out of work so I have nothing to look forward to in the morning. *these are the stuff I'm currently watching/playing. |

1. I will agree and say that this show was dissapointing. From what I know the Shinsengumi (even my mild manered father hates them) were a group of low life thugs and assassins who I have a hard time seeing in a glorified light. The Samurai X version of the Shinsengumi is much more to my opinions. So for me it is as tasteless as if Hitler's SS or the KKK were the main characters. The main character is really obnoxious, and that pig is one of the worst mascots ever. The animation is actually fairly good and is the main reason why I've watched the series. ADV also does a good job with the video transfer with very strong colors.
2. I too can't remember the extras, but I if I remember correctly ADV only puts 3 episodes on DVDs 4-7. I hate it when they spread 12 episodes out on 4 DVDs. Rightstuf is liquidating the series for $8 (which also comes out to $56) per disc if you don't like thinpaks. 3. I have not read the manga so I'm the wrong person to compare the endings, or non-endings. I assume you have already seen the superior Kenshin. I'm also a fan of the historic fiction series Shura no Toki which is going to be released as an economy set soon although neither series (not counting the Kenshin OAVS) come across as really dark. |

1. Disliked it for some reasons. Mainly, I was expecting some fighting considering the art box shows some Shinsengumi dressed up in cool garb, swords brandished in their action poses, but there was way less action than I expected (spoiler[the kid doesn't even dress up in that equipment and have a real fight until the very end]). I wouldn't mind it if there was some engrossing story but instead of that there was some lukewarm loli romance and some really lame humor that didn't really fit the mood. Oh also an emo kid that goes nuts occasionally.
2. Bought the thinpak so don't know. 3. Let me just say I wish that the end of the series was actually the beginning. Just as the series started to look good (around the last episode) it ended. I've heard that if you follow the manga then the anime is good somehow, but I don't think I'd be able to agree with that no matter how great the manga was. To me it was pretty much a waste of money and time. In fact, if it weren't for this post I'd have forgotten I ever bought it. |

i rarely like samurai anime, the only samurai anime i've been enjoying is Samurai 7. Peacemaker just wasn't my cup of pepsi.

That still doesn't tell me anything! I mean all of your posts are like one line. I mean if you don't have anything to add beside it wasn't my cup of pepsi don't post you really kill the thread with that crap. Back to the discussion on hand.
I completely agree with you on this! I mean that is part of the reason I originally thought this could be a great anime. What did I learn never judge a book (Or Anime DVD) by its cover. When I was originally watching this show I remember thinking to myself, ok so there is going to a great deal of moral issue concerning death, I think I am down. 10 episodes or so go by and I am thinking "dear lord this show is never going to do anything!" I mean someone else might enjoy this show for its strange sort of comedy, but I was so tired of hearing Edward Elric (Tetsuke Brother is same VA as Ed) yelling out "Tetsuke!" The Samurai genre doesn't appeal to you, yet you like Samurai 7.... uhm why don't you tell us why you don't like Peacemaker besides not liking samurai anime.... that isn't Samurai 7.
I think I said it before that the cases were the real reason I wanted to check it out. I love anime with swordfighting and this just looked bad-azz. I guess I'll wait for Basilisk to get me some sword fighting action... unless that dissappoints.
You better get yourself checked Tony. it happened to cousin last week and yesterday... BAM! Herpes. |

Hmmm......I am not sure how to explain this to you, I thought that my previous post made it clear. Anyways stay with me on this I am going to try once more. And to answer your question no you can't have one line opinion, part of this forum (And why it's a great forum) is that it requires discussion not online chat; With one line answers. This is clearly stated in the rules which you read when you first join this site. Specially look at rule #3.
Your original response to that question was this.
Ok how is that going to help Joel decide to purchase this series? I mean your answer doesn't even say what you didn't like about it, just that you didn't like it. You didn't like the characters? You didn't like the music, hell you didn't like the pig. Even with Joel giving us nice little question to answer you can't be bother to even look at those and decide to spam the thread. Follow by which the ever so nice Tony keep your post (could of just deleted it) and very kindly ask you explain why.
I hope you understand why now it's important to take time and write out a good quality post. Till next time, Delta Kiral P.S. Make sure you keep BBCode (the little box below where you type) is uncheck that why none of your coding is working. Last edited by Deltakiral on Fri Jun 23, 2006 3:45 am; edited 2 times in total |

I've seen Samurai Champloo on Adult Swim and i have to say that at first i somewhat liked it. I would try to see the new episode, but if i missed it i wasn't upset. I watch Samurai X and well i didn't enjoy it either. I really hadn't found a good samurai anime, maybe you guys can recommand me some that are. Well then i saw peacemaker. It was just like Samurai X i didn't enjoy it, but then i saw Samurai 7. Maybe it's my crazy mind trying to like a Samurai series. But as i said before, maybe Samurai series aren't for me. Wow, it feels like i'm in Rehab or something. Edit: to answer the question i didn't answer. Well i thought there was going to be more action. I saw episode after episode and they had some action, but it just didn't do it for me. |
