I want to see if people try to defend this guy like they've been defending the others.

I can't he had real child-porn, once that line is crossed your otaku hobby is over. I have no sympathies for him at all.

That is a complicated punishment for this crime.

Very strange.

Also, what's with the perfect 10:1 ratio of loli to CP?
Canada is strange.

And in before a crapload of comments, loli viewers are pedophiles. They aren't child molestors, but they are pedophiles; They are only causing more trouble repressing the truth.
The best example I can come up with which is the same thing is this:
If you are a man and enjoy the sexual element of Yaoi but would never participate in gay sex in real life, you are homosexual or bisexual.

If he just only had anime images, he would've had a chance to fight.
But since he had 12 images of real children, he had no choice but to plead guilty.

These laws are killing me. What's wrong for a person to have whatever material on HIS PC he wants? I mean, he didn't rape anyone. If person has porn on his harddrive that doesn't mean that he'll go and have hardcore threesome with any woman passing by. And having CP doesn't mean that person will come and rape a little girl in the park. Sick people and their next generation of witch hunt.

I think it's just the fact that child porn is illegal. REAL child porn can lead to REAL child molestation, regardless of if you just looked at/watched it.

I've noticed that there are different ideologies when it come to law enforcement in Japan vs. Western countries. Japan reasons that if you give the potential offender a substitute, it will keep the person from acting on their predilection. The Western law enforcement ideology is that the person possessing the material will likely escalate their predilection and commit assault (or worse).

I'll stick my neck out for anyone who's just got loli manga, but actual child pornography is inherently made by abusing children. Buy purchasing or downloading child pornography, you are supporting and encouraging the abuse of children to feed that market. A drawing is an expression by one person to another, and no more. A photograph of an actual crime is something beyond the pale to support.

I think it's all the more important that those who support freedom of expression condem child abuse of this nature. It needs to be clear that the desire to eliminate thought crime does not equate to permissal to commit assault or to support those that do.

So while from a standpoint of legal precedent I'm dismayed that this man was charged with the crime of owning manga, Canada has my full support in locking him up.

I will defend someone who just has drawings until I'm blue in the face;but as soon as real CP comes into it, I'm out.

Having photos of real child pornography is inherently wrong simply because it promotes child rape and abuse. Giving money to these monsters is unjustifiable. Period.

On the one hand, the presence of actual live-action child porn makes this very different from the usual animu moral panic situation.

On the other hand...most of it was anime, and since we already know that sort of thing throws certain Canadian police into a frenzy, it makes me wonder if they're making an overzealous interpretation of the live-action stuff. A big issue with the war on child porn is that you are not allowed to even see the evidence unless you're involved with the case, because it's apparently so mind-bendingly horrible that untrained individuals could mutate into child molesters just by looking at it...how are we supposed to tell whether they're doing their job correctly?

And, of course, child porn is not really a crime, it's evidence of a crime. But it's such a nasty crime that people want to take down anyone remotely associated with it, seemingly forgetting how absurdly easy it would be to frame someone for possessing the stuff and ruin their lives. Comprehensively punishing people just for possessing it, when they haven't harmed any real people themselves, definitely falls under thoughtcrime. But it's easier to catch people who have it than people who produce it, so they spend most of their time hunting and tar-n'-feathering the former. The war on drugs has the same problem.

Here's the Judge's take:

  • Judge Joseph Nadel told Taylor offenders sometimes question what the harm is in child pornography, but it’s dangerous for a variety of reasons.

Nadel said it normalizes pedophilia as a sexual preference which it’s not and desensitizes the offender to the pornography. Materials are also used to convince child victims that child pornography is OK.

Nadel said some of the images Taylor owned were of real children and those children were subjected to the behaviour. They will grow up knowing those pictures exist.
