Personally, I don't. Due to lazyness and sheer lack of artistic talent, I am limited to stick figures (or scribbles). Twisted Evil

However, how many of you actually go about drawing your own anime characters? If you do - can we see your work? Very Happy

Granted - I've seen some rather good work out there. Unfortunately, they're generaly mock-ups or ideas. Even so, some I do find rather impressive. For example:

Yea, needs work. But it's above average.

I am an artist, and my artwork is heavily inspired by japanese animation and manga, since I watch and read alot of it. But I have other artistic insperations as well, so I wouldnt say I draw anime, especially since Im not Japanese. But alot of people when they look at my drawings go all "Oh, so you draw that anime stuff" so I guess it must look anime-ish.
But no, I dont conisder my artwork anime.

Hmmm I see this question in two aspects.

First, I'm assuming that your asking if some of us draw in a style that's considered as anime-ish. Yes, I do. My art is heavily inspired by the animes I watch. I have my own style, but I also copy drawings I see on anime that I watch and manga I see.

Second, I think you could also be asking if any of us attempted to make our own anime/manga. I have done that. It's still unfinished though. It has been left unfinished for about 4-5 years.

This has been beaten to death in another topic. Obviously any of use here who are not in Japan cannot technically draw Anime. We can however draw Anime style drawings and i think thats what the poster of the topic wants to discuss. How bout instead of five pages of pointless debate over how he stated the question we actually talk about the actual topic.

I have a decent amount of tallent for drawing so I sketch Anime characters now and then. I also draw my own creations sometimes. I've never attempted anything at all major like trying to make my own Manga or anything. Just sorta vauge concepts for characters that I come up with.

I will leave this topic alone if you can give me a fair, accurate and non-biased description of what exactly Anime-style is, as if it is a style there must be conventions and as such, all Anime must follow said conventions if it is, infact, a style.

whatever people want it to be. Youre right, the definition of Anime style is vauge. Therefore I dont see why we must we get hung up on wether its Anime or not? If you draw stuff and you feel its based on the Anime style, then go ahead and post about it.

No, the definition of Anime style isn't vague, it's non-existent. It is not real, it never has been because Anime has never been, much like American animation, nailed to one paticular style or genre.

You still haven't given me a plausible answer, and I know that there is one, but people refuse to actually see it because they're getting hung up on the idea that they can draw actual moving pictures, when they're not.

"I'm drawing animation", sort of draws a parralel when Tokyopop described one of their comics as "live Action".

This would be plausible if the topic were Manga instead of Anime, because at the very least you're not mixing up meanings, and you can assume that maybe, if you were actually Japanese, this is what you'd draw. Anime is MUCh different than simply drawing stuff, and I wish you'd learn this.

what is your problem? Im sorry were we doing some great harm to something by discussing this? Did our missuse of terms offend you in some deep and personal way? Stop nitpicking. Yes we could turn this topic into a long discussion on the definition of Anime/Manga and why or why not what qualifys as drawing it. Id rather actually disscuss the topic. Its not like anyones gonna read the first post and become confused as to what this topic is supposed to be about. The basic idea behind this discussion is perfectly clear regardless of if it uses the right terminology. Here I'll rephrase it just incase.

Does anyone draw/paint/etc. stuff that relates to Anime/Manga? Be it characters from Anime/Manga, your own characters youve made up, or anything else like that.

There is that okay right? I didn't use any incorrect terms? Or did you wanna quote me and correct my grammar and spelling? By the way, should you feel the need to respond to this, I will not repond back. I dont wanna spam the topic with any more pointless debate.

Well, I can draw anime, but in chibi form...
Hehehe, they are simplier to sketch because of the very easy drawing technique on it...

I can only draw the face and body minus the hair and eyes if we are talking about anime in their original form...

I like drawing anime when I'm bored at class discussions, it's really the time when I can get my stuff through...

But most anime fans, so far that I've knew here in my place knows how to draw them... My bestfriend can do a rough etch of a character... Then, there is Jerry and Chariz and Richard, who are really good in drawing anime...

And to the certain issue about Drawing ala con Anime Style, It's really not a standard rule in drawing anime characters, in a common style we know or connote in anime... Well, it's not always big googly eyes, or a cola shaped body for girls, or a high school uniform outfit for teenagers, or according to my darn schoolmate, a bean shaped head with a letter L in the middle!

I mean there are anime that isn't always using the same drawing technique!

BTW, since we're talking about anime drawing and that... I would like to acknowledge the manga version of the grown up Powerpuff Girls that Jerry made, via Powerpoint!!!

Hope you'll like it!!!

And he's trying to finish it...

I have drawn with what could be called an anime style (large eyes, simplified body style). In fact my show for my BFA (Bachlor of Fine Arts) had drawings with that particular style as well as realistic drawing styles. One of my advisors actually liked that animeish style. I passed with flying colors. (albeit, I think my show was a bit weak) Razz

Now I draw when I have time (it rarely gets past pencils, once in a while, ink). Most of my time is spent doing designs for clients, or cooking and cleaning at home.
