It's the storytelling equivalent of a slice of bologna. And it's just as satisfying.

I don't know about that, at least you can Bar-b-que bologna.

Anime can tackle serious topics, and Love Stories can be dead serious. But it is even easier to make a mess of that sort of story which appears to have happened here.

merely minutes after I've finished watching them, I'm hardpressed to remember a single one.

Hell, I just barely remembered that I've seen it because the name seemed so familiar. It hasn't even been a year since I watched it either, last December. I believe I didn't even attempt to watch to straight through, but did it piecemeal an episode at a time.

I would say that I've seen porno with more involving stories than this, but that would be mean.

Why not be mean? I've absolutely seen hentai with better writing and more believable stories, some even better than most typical romcom anime.

They sort of succeed in setting a tone and place (mostly because nothing else does), but that's only because nothing else in the anime does.

This is a contradiction ("mostly because", then "only because").

To add to that, there are many meats of an even lower calibre which make for an appitizing sandwich. (Pork luncheon meat is a fine example.) The inclusion of certain other ingredients can easily compensate.

Yeah, I remember watching this a few years ago because Koji Morimoto did one of the shorts, but can't remember anything else about them. Totally not worth sitting through.

I thought I had watched this but couldn't remember. I had to look it up to recall that I had watched part of it, then gave up.

Hmmm...

I passed on downloading the fansub of this, and it seems like I made a wise decision. I hope the next Pile of Shame is something that I would want to see.

Be somewhat nice, and remember we are talking about hentei not eroge, almost all eroge are better then ai monogatari in terms of the above mentioned .

I have to say it left the same impression on me. and also:

Worse it's not the sort of tone and place that most people would really want to be: Beatles classics aside, they're mostly draggy old big band standards, the sort of thing your grandparents put on at Christmas to blend into the background during a dinner party.
Maybe my grandparents, if they were still alive and/or capable of making a conscious choice to play a given piece of music. But sadly enough, many of today's teenaged anime fans could easily be grandchildren of Baby Boomers, or possibly of very young Gen-X grandparents. So maybe Beatles classics will be or already are "grandparents' background music" choices?

I thought Bologna is a sauce (with meat), and you cannot have a "slice" of it. Confused

About the anime, err... seems boring.

No, Bologna is a city in Italy. You're thinking of Baloney, which is what comes out of politician's mouths.

Never heard of this one, and it sounds like for good reason. But that raises an interesting point--what anime are out there that primarily are focused on adult romance? Diamond Daydreams immediately springs to mind, but there aren't that much more I can think of:

Spice and Wolf
Honey and Clover (although that's really a teen romance transposed into college)
Earl and Fairy
Windaria, maybe? (kind of a stretch)
Gdleen (scraping the bottom of the barrel now)
There has to be more right? Anybody have any others?

I have seen this on used VHS -- the tape set my subdermal obscure-o-meter ringing madly as I was walking past a shop in Kagoshima. Like others here, I cannot remember a thing about it except for the music (the rights to which are only one more reason to keep this out of R1). More realistic, mature love stories, please -- just not by Japan's manga equivalent of Tom Clancy.

Actually, I think your thinking of bolognese sauce. It's a sauce traditionally made with beef and sausage or ground pork.

Bologna is the faux-meat.

I just really want to know what Beatles songs they used. I'd love to watch an anime with the Beatles. (though maybe not this one).

Anime about adults with some romance:
Nana (dysfunctional relationships FTW!)
Nodame Cantabile
Natsuyuki Rendezvous

And, uh, I feel like there's another Noitamina series somewhere...

What about Otona Joshi no Anime Time? It's a series of four separate episodes about adults...haven't seen it yet, but I assume there's some mature romance there?
