They changed it from Dragon Quest, though, because DQ actually has fans in Japan.

They probably changed the name so they won't have to deal with copyrights from SquareEnix.

Many people say the same about young anime, so just get used to it.

Only now are they listing the Japanese MLP cast per episode? There's a number of noticeable seiyuus that have done voice work in the Japanese version of the show. You can find more here.

Seriously, the blinders some people have on are just ridiculous.

Maybe because it's a good cartoon. And they enjoy it

Same reason anyone watches anything else.

Good heavens, people are watching a cartoon not specifically directed at their demographic!? Whatever might happen next?

There's a pretty big difference between anime and this, though. It makes sense for anime.

Keep in mind that a lot of us adults have people getting confused about our liking "Japanese cartoons" too. I like pony but I know it's not everyone's thing and that's fine.

Then I'll describe his role for you: He plays an asshole red dragon who delights in smashing unborn phoenix eggs. And no, being that the show is for kids, they don't actually let him do it. But the urge is there.

Frankly I'm stunned both by the fact that they didn't cast Tetsuya Kakihara for the part (*coughdragoncough*), and by how close I came to actually guessing the casting right. The only one I actually nailed was Shigeru Chiba as...well...this guy.
