Synergy is where VAs of both languages have shared multiple characters.
E.G Stephanie Sheh and Yuko Goto are both Anya from Code Geass R2 and Mikuru from Haruhi. E.G2 Jamieson Price and Joji Nakata are both Count of Monte Cristo Diethard Ried in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Gyuki in Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, Kirei Kotomine in Fate/Stay Night, Nrvnqsr Chaos in Tsukihime, Algol in Soulcalibur IV, Grande in Tweeny Witches. Some people like synergy, some people do not. I personally love it due to my name and the fact that you can make so many jokes. Whenever I watch F/Z, I always think of Alucard, when watch Kirei in action. When I watch F/S/N, the Count of Monte Cristo always comes to mind. The most notable scene is from Geass R2. JYB/Jun Fukuyama, who is Lelouch pwns Diethard, who is Jamieson Price/Joji Nakata. No matter your views, the Count just got owned by Albert. The funniest meme is the Bridgett Hoffman one. Due to her Yamato Nadeshiko voice(despite not being Japanese), she always tends to play Kikuko Inoue characters, because Kikuko Inoue has a Yamato Nadeshiko voice. |

I think that it is kind of interesting when I notice it, but I do not really like it or dislike it. It is just a thing that happens sometimes.
Wendy Lee and Aya Hirano played Konata in Lucky Star and Haruhi Suzumiya. |

I don't know about or particularly care about voice actors to that great a detail, beyond remembering a few names. Who plays the part doesn't really matter to me as long as it's decently acted. I also don't believe that every character in the dub has to "sound" like their Japanese counterpart either for me to call it a good dub.
So....no synergy? My brand of useless trivia is more the show title and storyline related info, kind. |

I agree, but to me, it's so fun and create so much laughs, as well as a good idea who my favorite VA might play. I.G Mary McGlynn to me is the ENG Atsuko Tanaka because of her links to her and she does sound similar to Tanaka, though her natural voice is deeper. Same with Tara Platt, though her normal voice is rather high. It's just so fun to see both sets of VAs be in one show. Michael Tatum to me is like Sho Hayami, because he has the same sexy, smooth voice, yet it can be deep and dark. @Touma Yes, forgot about that. |

Bandai had a habit(policy?) of assigning VAs to seiyuu. On the plus side, it preserve character references. On the downside, not everybody has the same range as their Japanese counterpart. |

That's interesting. I'll try to remember that whenever I watch any of the Bandai shows that I own. I had never noticed because I really do not pay much attention to who the seiyuu are. I knew a bit about Aya Hirano because I really like her as a singer. |

I've often wondered this as well and only really know of the obvious connections already mentioned in this topic. However, since I only watch dubs, I have no real motivation to actually sit down and research it.

Same here. The amount of research I'd need to do to satisfy any curiosity in this area is not really worth it to me. I'd rather just use that time to watch another anime or finish something in my Stalled list. If the OP finds it more interesting though more power to them. |

I know that Japan and other countries tend to do this with Hollywood movies, where one VA will "be" Nicholas Cage, Julia Roberts, etc. But Japan has the luxury of having nearly all of its VO/dubbing industry concentrated in Tokyo, whereas North American anime dubs over the years have been spread out between 3 cities in the huge state of Texas, Southern California, New York City, Vancouver, Calgary, and a few other places like North Carolina. So most of the synergy that's taken place is mainly due to the luck of who gets what show and where it's been dubbed. |
