Really good movie. Funny in a lot of parts. Nice action. I have the light novel and the fan-translated manga. Not sure if there is a US edition manga but I'll have to check the translator/editor and publisher if we do have them in the West.

What Non-Franchise Films are they talking about. They don't just mean Mission Impossible do they? Why not just say Mission Impossible?

Viz, had it running in Shonen Jump, so it should be out soon.

I guess you can say you preferred one on a personal level, but it's the old apples and oranges comparing them I think, as they told the story the right way for their respective medium. I think the light novel was an incredible piece of SF, and that the movie was an excellent adaptation.
