That's what you call fandom. Kudos to him and his fans - I really want to take a listen to his works now and become a fan myself! There's just so much perseverance and passion in this article.

Japan is badass.

Oldest comic writer (I think), oldest porn star, oldest baseball player, and oldest composer?

What else? Very Happy

Impressive and even more impressive is that his music has inter-generational appeal.

There's a Japanese composer named Chuji Kinoshita who's 99 years old. He did the music for Masaki Kobayashi's The Human Condition and a bunch of other Japanese films. But I don't think he's active anymore. IMDB lists his last work in 1988.

The ANN article wrote:
"I kept in mind that I would not compose childish music even if the target of the dramas was children. That's why people in their 40s and 50s still listen to my songs and sing them at karaoke. I'm really pleased," Watanabe said.

This could explain why Mr. Watanabe-san's music has been revered by so many people of all ages. I personally view any music that's catered specifically to children to be try-hard and boring.
