I realized just as I hit submit that there was an error in my address for the contest.

I understand from viewing previous contest forum threads that multiple submissions from a single person results in them being thrown out.

My question is, is there a way to fix my entry or am I just out of luck due to my minor carelessness?

I'm also getting an error when I hit the submit button
"We're terribly sorry but the server currently appears to be under heavy load.
Please try again in a moment.

Thank you for your understanding."

Does that mean my entry didn't go through? Sad

^ I got the same thing, but, when I went back and tried again, I got the (paraphrasing from memory) "sorry, you have already entered this contest" message, so I presume yours got through the first time too.

I'd be wary of this sort of thing... you have no control whatsoever as to what they send you (it could be adult items or otherwise inappropriate; in any case there's no guarantee it will be from series that you like).

Also, the claim that it's $60 should be taken with a major grain of salt... these things tend to ship whatever they can get a bulk discount on, which tends not to be things in high demand.

The big red flag is that they claim it's "curated", but really they just fill up boxes and send it to you. There is NO attempt to tailor it to a particular taste, theme, or other sort of arrangement that a curator would normally be responsible for.

It's very likely that this company is offering some kind of financial incentive to ANN to run this promotion. Kind of like a stealth marketing thing. Please be careful. EVen if you don't win, they'll have your info and will probably spam you to buy their products.

I am sorry but after "adult items" I was laughing too hard. Have you ever gotten anything from Loot Crate or this new Loot Anime? I ask because the last two years of Loot Crates I have received, never seemed to have sent anything that sounds like an adult item that is inappropriate. Also last time I checked it has always been marketed as a mystery box, so again why do you think you have to explain to people that they may not get stuff they like? Is that not a chance you take with a mystery box? It's the reason I have cancelled everything but the Loot Anime, because I have not enjoyed the majority of things I received lately. Also what are you talking about not tailoring to a theme? This contest is for Loot Anime. Its theme is anime and manga. Everything I have pulled out the the two Loot Anime I have received has been anime or manga stuff.

Mystery boxes like these require you have a general interest in some particular category of thing. Otherwise, you're not going to be pleased with what you get. The original Loot Crate would be the most general of all: You basically have to be interested in (or not dislike) everything, as stuff inside a Loot Crate could potentially come from any franchise.

Loot Anime would be more like the grab bags at anime conventions. I love getting those, but I'm content with the few I pick up there. I know the demand for those grab bags is pretty low though. Visitors to these conventions are normally fans of specific things and want to get stuff pertaining to those specific things.

As for me, the only mystery box I'm currently subscribed to is Universal Yums, whose theme is imported snacks, with a featured country each month. How long I'll keep the subscription depends on what countries they trend towards, as I get easy access to snacks from a number of different countries where I live (China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Iran thanks to the new trade agreements, Mexico, Sweden, Germany, Indonesia, Turkey, Russia), but not some others (most of Europe, India, Canada, most of South America, and anything else I didn't list).

^ Oh yeah, I wouldn't subscribe to any kind of subscription box thing... as I don't have much money.... but... even if I did have money, I'm only into "a small number of the things", and you really have to be into "all of the things" for most of these boxes to be worth it. Well, unless you're planning on re-selling all the things you're not into on eBay.

That is, unless someone at LootCrate answers my pleas and comes up with a sub-sub-sub niche monthly "Loot Non Non Biyori" box that's just Ren-chon Figmas and Komari-sempai plushes as stitched by Hotaru and maybe a few dagashi handpicked by Kaede "Dagashiya/Candy Store" Kagayama herself.

I can't speak about their anime box, but the general Loot Crate is offensively inoffensive. It feels focus tested to hit every vein advertisers believe "geeks" love. At times some of the stuff in the box comes across as an advertisement. Every month seems to be Marvel, Batman, Star Wars, the expected topical genre thing of the month (if not Star Wars, Batman or Marvel) and maybe a shout out to one lesser known thing.

Glancing at the preview image for the anime box, the mindset behind the general box seems to be carrying over. It looks heavy on really popular stuff like Attack on Titan, Naruto and Fairy Tail, with a highlight given to lesser known (in comparison) series like Soul Eater (possibly just a byproduct of Lootcrate buying a lot of unsold Funimation Funko Poops) and Seven Deadly Sins (which I guess would count as the topical genre thing given its rising popularity thanks to Netflix). Expect Pokemon, Gundam, Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon eventually too. They might even bend the rules and include non-anime things like Hatsune Miku, Final Fantay and Power Rangers. At their level of business, they have to be offensively inoffensive because there's no way they can cater to everyone's individual interests, so they just grab what ever is most popular. If you're a fan of the obscure, these mainstream blind boxes won't be for you. With that in mind, I doubt you'll get anything pornographic or obscene either.

Every contest is a "stealth marketing thing." The idea is to give free product in the hopes that you convert some of those eyeballs into customers. I don't think ANN will be selling your personal data, though.

My only experience with Loot Crate are those videos Ashens makes, and I generally agree with both him and you about the content. They seem to go for whatever the mainstream geek appeal is which usually involves the latest superhero movie and popular shows like Game of Thrones and Walking Dead. I would have to imagine an anime equivalent would have stuff like Dragon Ball Z and other popular shounen anime merchandise.

I wonder if there's already an adult oriented mystery box. If not, I'm sure that could be a thing and some marketers should jump on it

While I have experienced things similar to what you're describing, this has for the most part not been my experience with Loot Crate subscriptions. I have from time to time been disappointed in individual items they have shipped with my crates (need I remind fellow subscribers about the inflatable crown from the Fantasy crate last April?) but the vast majority of the things I have received since I subscribed in July 2014 have been very nice as well as theme-appropriate, and there's a decent number of exclusives. I've also come to realize that the pieces which don't fit my particular taste often make good gifts for friends and family - I just gave one of my Walking Dead trinkets from this past month's crate to a cousin I haven't seen in decades who absolutely adores the series and appreciates the humor behind the design of the item.

All that being said, Loot Anime is one of their newer subscriptions and has some growing pains to sort out. The December Enchant crate ran into issues with the licensing for one of the exclusive items. Looking around the internet, many people subscribed for this box solely for that item but ultimately Loot Anime was unable to provide it. They had to replace it with another exclusive at the last minute, delaying the crate to the point where people were paying for their January crate before they received the one for December, which has not exactly given them a shining rep in anime circles.

So yes, probably there is an element of advertising in this, as with most contests in which you win a product, I should point out, but as it's run by one of the better geek mystery box companies I don't think it's really as sinister as some might imagine.

Good thing to know I wasn't the only one with problems. According to rules of previous contests, we're screwed, but we'll see.
