If you ever had anyone tell you his sillier works are bad, don't believe them. If Lone Wolf and Cub was intelligent drama, Mad Bull 34, Wounded Man and Crying Freeman were intelligent stupidity.
One of my favorite authors both as a creator and person. |

One of the most legendary artists ever to walk the earth. It must also be stressed that his manga program also educated legendary names like Rumiko Takahashi, Hideyuki Kikuchi, Tetsuo Hara, and Yuji Horii.

I've never read his works but I remember the father and son from lone wolf and cub appearing in an episode of Samurai Jack.

Words cannot describe how upset I'm right now that Kazuo Koike is now dead. He is one of my favorite manga authors and one of the most important authors of the 20th century. He is up there with Osamu Tezuka as the most important authors in the history of anime and manga.

Not only a legend for his samurai epics, but so many other crazy tales. Great modern pulpy crime stories like Crying Freeman. He had a crazy action comedy in Mad Bull 34. I don't even know how to classify Offered. I think I remember reading he even did a seinen golf title. May he rest in peace.

The ugly fat 3-in-1 omnibuses are but the old 90’s single volumes are horribly out of print. Glad I picked up the single volumes before it did. |

Oh wow, this is major news. Another legend gone. But time is as time goes. His toil and love for telling great stories is testament to man he was. He's inspired a massive generation of readers, artists and film makers. Who have all taken something away from his work. He will sorely be missed.

It's sad that most modern anime fans probably never heard of him until now. His work is consider to be nice in the US He has made so many iconic and legendary titles, but I notice many modern anime & manga fans (Both the Cartoon Network generation and this Streaming generation) are not very well aware of his work. I have seen a few anime & manga fans that don't know what Lone Wolf & Cub is. His titles have help influence Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino.
