Haven’t read the second book but I enjoyed the first book, B is pretty much what I got and look forward to reading the second.

Oh yay! Really glad you checked this out. I had preordered and put off reading volume 1 for a long time and sort of regretted it. The book itself was really entertaining, minus the jarring tone shift when sexual assault was brought up as a threat. I think it could have been better handled but it also could have been a lot worse. I like what you brought up, about Maria not wanting to have been summoned and suffering until Lucia treats her like an actual person. Tons of really neat thematic ideas! And as far as I know, V3 will conclude the story. The pacing has been a little brisk, but I appreciate when stories aren't unnecessarily prolonged
