I haven't seen any Tokyo Mew Mew episode, but I love these kind of references to previous versions.
Just like with Urusei Yatsura.

So not only do they have the original Ichigo, Saki Nakajima, voicing her mom, but they also have Saki Nakajima's IRL husband playing Ichigo's dad! Perfect!
