This probably means less theatrical releases and more streaming-only releases. Crunchyroll just doesn't stop taking L's.

This is quite baffling. How many US productions are filmed in Canada for example? Will they be hit with the tariff? If that's the case it's going to be devastating to Hollywood.

Back to anime, I assume that any distributor who licenses anything from today onwards just had cost of any licence double. Have assume it means any production, TV series or film, streaming or cinema release.

Lol, hope the people voted on Trump have a nice place in hell together with Trump. They are destroying everyone's freedom systematically. And the only people that benefits are the billionaires like Musk. And yet people follow Trump & co like blind mindless sheep.

This is going to destroy the anime business in the USA and the rest of the world. The whole world (outside of Japan) anime industry relies on companies in the USA. Here in Australia or Europe we only get English dubs provided by USA anime companies.

The oracle of Delphi speaks and his advisers are left to interpret the messages as they see fit. It's not a sensible national policy in any sense, it's just a dementia-addled old man posting his thoughts as he has them.

I'm just saying, we didn't think about this before a bunch of whinos started inventing things to get mad at in dubs, video games, and movies.

I am not an American citizen but i have to ask.

Is this guy deliberately trying to cause an economic crash? it feels like another great depression era is taking place.

It's not fascism if you have to pay more to buy a movie. I know the word has lost all meaning and now just means "anything inconvenient" but let's not dissolve the word any further.

that's not what penguin said. Trump is a fascist. This is a fact. Fascist hating foreign art is also a fact. And it's not as simple as "paying more to buy a movie". It will basically make it unfeasible for movies to allowed into the country. So basically the only content here will be "American made". That is something fascists want because they can control it.

Wouldn't Crunchyroll like this? They're a streaming service. Getting more people to use their service over going to theaters sounds like a good thing to me. It sounds like the real losers will be physical media enjoyers as that market has been shrinking severely for years now. Of course all the folks who pirate anime won't be affected at all.

First he made video games unaffordable, now it's anime, and most movies. Is everyone enjoying the Finding Out phase?

The word's meaning has never been clearer. We're seeing new examples of it every day. Words do not magically stop having meanings just because people use them. Quite the opposite, in fact.

And yes, attacks on creative expression (especially anything the government sees as foreign) is a pretty textbook example of fascism.

No, he's just extraordinarily stupid.

Streaming will be affected by this as well. It's too simple of a "loophole" to not be included. If this goes through, expect most streaming services to double their prices to make up for it.

If we look at the global finance numbers, the industry outside of Asia is actually a very little. Probably won't matter in the end.

edit: Again, it's weird that people think this won't affect streaming. CR will NOT benefit from this

I sincerely hope you're right. The new Madoka film is a massive point of interest on my radar that I've been preparing for for a decade now. I traveled several cities out twice to watch the compilation films in Japan, and then went to an entirely different state than I was living in to watch Rebellion, on very little money. The theater experiences are something I cherish to this day. I've never done that for any other film. If the next film doesn't play in the US or it becomes so selective that I can't go see it, that would wreck me in ways that I wouldn't normally let access to media wreck me. ):

Trump has officially lost his mind. He refuses to admit his tariff policies have backfired.
