Loved the series especially when Yukimura turned Thorfinn into a slave. It felt like one of the craziest moments in manga history and I loved it considering how he changed the way of handling violence.

So, approximately 30 (or, in English, 15) volumes altogether?
Gotta say, I'm a bit sad to see it come to an end, but not surprised. But only a bit -- this third arc has so far been noticeably weaker, and far messier, than what came before (join me in pouring one out for the aborted Byzantium arc). And it's felt like the series has been winding down for a while. I'm very curious how it will ultimately end. As I see it, there are really only three possible outcomes (or fewer, depending on what happens in volume 14, which I haven't gotten to yet): either the American colony is successful, the colony fails, or for whatever reason the colony's fate is left as a question mark (with Thorfinn either dying or deciding to leave for some reason). |

Almost hard to believe it's really ending. I hope Yukimura can bring Thorfinn's story to a close well.

Remember Thorfinn is playing Leif's role from real history. If you read about it, you will see spoilers |

Thorfinn is playing Thorfinn's role from "real history" (as opposed to...?); Leif Erikson is literally a character in the manga. Regardless, even if we had a very firm idea of how and everything went down over here in reality, Vinland Saga is a work of historical fiction that's already taken a great many liberties. I think we can safely assume that trend will continue. |

I'm sad to see it end. I'm about 10 chapters behind so I'll marathon it afyer the final one drops. Here's hoping it will have a satisfactory ending. Even if not, this remains my favourite manga ever. I have faith in Makoto Yukimura.

Wow, though I guess it's to be expected, considering the nature of the fourth arc. Looking forward to the ending!

It seemed like they were preparing for this, but man. Vinland Saga has a reputation of being a "comic fan's manga" like Lone Wolf and Cub back in the day where Larry Hama gave copies of the manga to other members of the Marvel bullpen who all loved it. You had Rob Liefeld on his podcast admitting he was antsy waiting for the new volume of Vinland Saga coming out when discussing book numbering with Robert Kirkman.
It's going to be a while before another manga fills that hole. |

For those reading the manga how many more anime episodes would it take to adapt the whole story.

Sad and happy news! One of the best manga is ending. It feels sudden, but the end was in view considering where we are.
The latest English release is omnibus Vol.14 up to chapter 209, with 18 chapters. If it ends at 220, then vol 15 will be smaller with 11 chapters, though they could add pages of bonus stuff collecting Japanese articles, art, interviews, accolades and Congratulations messages from other mangaka, which is always nice! And I'm sure MAPPA will announce the anime's continuation production next year. I recall Yukimura saying how he was determined to finish his work in light of the sudden passing away of Berserk's Kenta Miura, so it's good to hear that one of the greats has seen his magnum opus to it's conclusion and can enjoy the fruits of his labor!
While liberties are taken, none of them depart too far from the historical record. The last English volume made clear where things are headed. I think we'll get an ending where Thorfinn realizes that spoiler[there is no area on Earth where there will be an absence of conflict. People are the same everywhere. So 'Vinland' must be cultivated wherever home is. So he returns with everyone to his family home and will carry on his pacifist ideals there. There is no 'starting over' except with yourself, and there are no perfect solutions, only how you live up to your convictions There is only doing the best where you already are to make the world a better place.] Anyway, if anyone is looking for another great historical/cultural fiction manga to fill the vacuum, I highly recommend 'A Bride's Story' by Kaoru Mori, set in Mongolia. |

It's a bleak ending, but it was the only realistic outcome from the start. The manga´s historical accuracy was always off the mark, but it was never an alt-history manga and anti-war stories aren´t known for their positive outcomes.
The 3rd arc is known to have off-screened a lot of material. Let´s see if Yukimura will one day decide to show some of this or if the anime´s S3 will have original episodes if it returns.[/spoiler] |
