Really glad this is finally getting another season, but Crunchy picking it up makes it feel all the more arbitrary that they didn't get the movie. Wonder if they'll get the physical rights at some point.
I did wonder if they would wait until Bleach was done to restart Black Clover, and it's seems like that's sorta confirmed?

I am extremely happy about this new for a variety of reasons. The primary reason is that the anime left on an obvious “go read the manga” ending, but now there’s at least a pretty good chance they’ll finish the Spade kingdom arc. If they stop there then at the very least anime only watchers won’t be left in the middle of a cliffhanger. Now here’s hoping it will be the same staff and they actually have a good schedule. Which, depending on how long they’ve been working since the movie came out will determine the likelihood of that happening. Still, here’s hoping they do the hype parts justice and keep the IP alive. Black Clover will forever be one of my favorite series and I hope it goes well.

I thought they were going to wait for the manga to end before continuing the anime, but I guess the next arc is enough to fill a season. I just wonder who will direct it, since I doubt Tatsuya Yoshihara will be available, thanks to the Chainsaw Man movie and the second season of Wistoria.

I'm excited that Black Clover is returning for a new season, but I'm also surprised that Crunchyroll will continue to license the next season of the show. I was somewhat expecting Netflix to get the new season of Black Clover, considering Netflix distributed and released the movie, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King or something similar to when Crunchyroll & Netflix shared and streamed Vinland Saga Season 2, DanDaDan and Witch Watch on both services.
But I guess the Black Clover movie was under a different production committee distribution compared to the original Black Clover anime series which would likely explain why Netflix ONLY got the license of the Sword of the Wizard King movie but the actual anime is fully licensed/distributed by Crunchyroll and why they end up licensing the new season of Black Clover over Netflix.

Netflix is listed in the Japanese credits of that movie in a similar way as some of their "Originals" so there's more to it than just licensing the film and as for a physical release, I doubt it.

At least they finally made the official announcement. It’s been too long since the last season. Hopefully they will make more seasons to fully adapt the manga, which is phenomenal itself!

It might actually come out before those new Naruto episodes. That’s crazy.

Even if that's the case the production committee for the Black Clover series and the film are completely different:
TV series
- Production committee: Pierrot, TV Tokyo
- North America publisher (streaming/home video): TV Tokyo
Sword of the Wizard King (movie)
- Production committee: Avex Pictures, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Pierrot, Shueisha, TV Tokyo
- North America publisher: ??? (It's likely Pierrot, TV Tokyo, or someone else not in the production committee)
- Japan distribution (should be theatrical): Shochiku (Shochiku ODS Jigyō-shitsu)
- Japan distribution (home video): Avex Pictures
It's like I said, it would partly explain why Crunchyroll wound up licensing the new season of Black Clover over Netflix

Pleased to see the series' return (presumably next year since a time wasn't announced). It was one of my favorites of the major shonen action titles.

I was always under the impression that the anime ended when it did because it was close to catching up to the manga. Was that not the case?

| Quote: | | The anime premiered in Japan in October 2017. The show was originally listed with 51 episodes, but it continued into a new season with episode 52 |
It's interesting that the article still incorrectly claims Black Clover continued into a "new season" when the new image clearly states this new production is season 2. What happened originally is they merely extended season 1's length to 170 episodes due to its success. It was still one season though.

That was most likely a big factor, but Pierrot was also struggling at the time. Even now, they seem to have trouble producing more than one show at a time, and Bleach ended up taking priority.
And then there’s Boruto…

That Naruto anniversary short series is coming any day now, only a couple years late no big deal

The remainder of the Spade Kingdom arc is about ~60 chapters which is a good amount to do in a 24 episode season. The final arc is currently in the final fight, and while those tend to be long I think we'll end with enough chapters that an 24 episodes or so should be able to cover it too. My guess it that will get an adaptation a little after the Spade Kingdom anime finishes since while I can see the manga wrapping up by the end of next year that is only an educated guess.

Episodes 168-170 of the fourth season adapted the first twelve chapters of the Spade Kingdom Arc (Chapters 261-272) thus there are only 59 chapters left from the Spade Kingdom Arc, which will be roughly 18-20 episodes for the new season with 3-4 chapters per episode to complete Spade Kingdom.
