I just got something through Japan Post today, and my first thought was that it might be the last one for quite some time. I can't blame them for this decision since not doing anything is safer than guessing at it.
As a customer, it makes me reluctant to order anything. Some places have added the fees afterward, either notifying that the items will be returned or maybe send a bill later. Some have sat on orders in warehouses. Some have sent things and decided to take the hit because it's just taking up space. Not knowing what to expect means it's hard to want to order anything because that production time leaves it wide open to change.
And once again, I have to point out that this is affecting items that are not produced domestically, and are not going to be either. Good Smile isn't going to start making Nendoroids in the US, they will just stop selling them here, or you'll have to work through a domestic business partner, which will almost certainly still factor in the tariffs and a markup for its own costs.

When everyone except one person realizes what a terrible idea these tariffs are but no one has the guts to tell that one person no.

This is what happens when your current administration is run by a guy who doesn't actually know what tariffs are.

Terrible foreign tax policy followed up by equally terrible results. Japan is well known for things beyond the cute nendroids and manga. They produce high quality items like stationery, this covers notebooks, fountain pens, over engineered mechnical pencils, erasers, and more.
Then you have high quality, affordable(at the moment) watches, both quartz and mechnical. From doing woodworking as a hobby, there is a active fan base in the US for woodworking tools from Japan, and that covers things from hand planes, chisels, gouges, natural sharpening stones, hammers, etc.
The impact is huge, and will affect everyone. How dumb is it that a certain populace couldn't have it in them to not elect a multi time convicted felon. And don't go saying whoever would have won the election the outcome would have been the same. That's pure baloney.

I want to hope this will not last long, but sadly it's a very low hope. Makes me wish I had been able to order more things for my Obitsus ahead of this insanity, but couldn't make the finances work. Honestly, though, I'm more worried about how this will affect local anime stores, like the one I have in my town. They struggle enough with getting in product for their card games (mostly Pokemon), but now this will just be harder on them to get merch.

Thanks a lot, orange manbaby. I don't normally order stuff that's over $100 outside of rare exception, but boy are import businesses gonna be hit super hard, especially Gunpla.

I was fortunate that almost all of my items arrived this month, so the only items at "immediate" risk are my Garden Party MaoMao figure from Good Smile and my Frieren and Fern statue from Crunchyroll due in November.

You realize this is an unforced error on his part, right?
No other policy he has justifies the fact that he is engaging in this idiocy. Saying some people hate immigrants more than they like cheap merchandise is not a justification for why he decided to do this, he still decided to do this and it in no way follows that deporting people required this.
I do think it's funny the only justification people can come up with these policies is they like other policies that also raise prices for US citizens though, who would've thought winning was so expensive?

I haven't ordered much from overseas recently but I wonder how long until they get the new rules in place. I don't mind paying a 15% tariff or whatever in the future if I have to. Hopefully it's not long the 2020 pandemic suspensions.

Yeah, a major part of why Japan Post is halting shipping is down to how wishy washy this administration has been on this topic; first all foreign countries were being tariffed, then they backpedaled to just China, then it was everyone again, and now de minimis is going away. I don’t blame JP for wanting to wait until American trade policy settles down into a clear set of rules

It's funny how people will defend Trump in the threads about Sony and Nintendo raising prices by arguing it's just corporate greed and nothing to do with the tariffs and now here's a clear case where the tariffs are clearly responsible and now they just admit they just don't care.

Yeesh, I have an item over $100 that just shipped yesterday, but I was planning on buying stuff from the upcoming Treasure Festa; not sure how that’s gonna shake out, since I usually have those shipped in one bulk order via warehouse to cut down on shipping costs :/
