This is awesome news, but based on previous story arcs covered in the first season of Chainsaw Man, the 'Assassin's Arc' could only just need to be 5 or 6 episode long. If it's planned to be a movie each for the final 3 story arcs of the first part of the manga series, it's going to take many many years to finish the anime adaptation. Really wish it just got a ~13-15 anime episode season that covers the rest of the Public Safety Saga.

I feared the massive and deserved success of the Reze Arc movie would lead Mappa to adapt the rest of Chainsaw Man's first part as a series of movies, and it looks like it's what we're getting. I hope they can at least release one of these every year.

This is why I hate it when a TV anime switches to movies.

This is a great point. Chainsaw has done a great job of being brief and too the point when adapting the narrative, avoiding filler.

However it is true, a movie makes more sense here. Reze Arc in Manga was 14 chapters, Assassins arc is 18.

I hope that after that, they finish the rest of the story out in tv form. Though that will depend on financing. I understand that MAPPA pretty much owns the rights to the anime as opposed to the multifurcated production committee model (financing AND ownership split amongst multiple companies. If MAPPA has to eat production AND distribution costs but therefore makes a lot more money than they would have otherwise, I could see them finishing things out as movies.

Regardless, due to the amount of stuff MAPPA is working on, TV form or Movie form it'll likely be a while before the FIRST SAGA ends.

Why is everyone here thinking the Assassins' arc will be a movie when it wasn't stated in the announcement?

People like to fabricate their own realities so they can complain. Rolling Eyes

It's a much longer arc than Reze, so I would hope that it's an actual season or so of anime.

Given that they are specifically calling this the 'Assassin's Arc' instead of just "Season 2", suggests this is a movie announcement.

I have mixed feelings...

The Manga's first part is 11 volumes.

If I recall correctly, Season 1 adapted up to volume 4, and half of 5.

The Reze movie adapted the second half of 5 and volume 6.

They could easily wrap up Part 1 with a season of around maybe 15 episodes...

On the other hand, the Assassins Arc is adaptable for a movie.

And it is the arc with the heaviest amount of action and pure plot development.

Also unlike Reze, practically all of the characters from Season 1 are involved.

With a movie budget, and MAPPA's pedigree for action animation sequences as demonstrated by the Reze movie, this would undoubtedly kick a lot of ass!!!

But the wait for the completion of Part 1 as a whole will be long...

But so long as the remaining 2 arcs get a TV season together without interruption after the Assassin's arc, I'll be very happy! Please DO NOT break that story up!

Personally, I'm making this assumption because this arc is not long enough to fill an entire TV season (it's only 4 chapters longer than the Reze arc), and the announcement only mentioned this one arc instead of saying "new season". Also, Mappa would make a lot more money with three theatrical releases than with a 13-episode TV season.

Sure, Demon Slayer made an unprecedented amount of money with the Mugen Train movie and the production commitee still followed it with a bunch of TV seasons, but that was a different case because the two arcs that followed Mugen Train were long enough to fill a season each. After that, the Hashira training arc got absurdly padded with original material to fill 8 episodes because they wanted the final arc to be adapted as a movie trilogy.

Was what I was wondering too. If it was going to be a movie I would assume they would just say that at this point/in this case. I assumed it would be a TV adaptation, but we'll see when more information comes out. In either scenario, it's not like we'd see it until 2027 or later anyway so I don't really care lol. Just nice that they confirmed it since it was one of the better arcs in the series.

Well, following Reze's release, MAPPA themselves said they were undecided about another movie or season, and Reze turned out to be a big success.

The teaser trailer is apparently listed on the MOVIE section of MAPPA's website.

The teaser begins with Makima sitting in a theater, watching all the new characters projected on the big screen.

This arc is VERY action-heavy, and will involve scenes with A LOT of moving crowds and enemies, so it would necessitate a lot of animation work, whether 2D or 3D to look good, so a movie budget and production time would be wise.

They can still wrap up the rest of Part 1 with a shorter but high quality TV season after it. There are still big action scenes to come, but briefer in duration compared to the Assassin's arc where past the brief introduction it is practically non-stop action right up to the end.

Trailers/commercials listed under "MOVIE" are standard on any Japanese anime website and have been for more than a decade. It's not an indicator of an anime's overall format.

This is also a callback to the first season's OP, or to Makima and Denji going to the movies on their date.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's another movie. I'd like it to be a TV series just because I enjoy the discussion week to week, but we'll see.
