Though it seems you have to use, of all browsers, freaking EDGE to view it. Just...why?

Uh, where does it say Microsoft Edge??? Because I looked around on the ANN article and on the Beyond LIVE's website and I don't see anything mentioned about Microsoft Edge being require to watch this. Even if they did, I don't understand why Microsoft Edge but not also include Google Chrome, Apple Safari, etc... since several browsers like Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome both used Chromium engine for the browsers. |

It seems to say it on the FAQ answer to "What is the recommended system requirements for watching Beyond LIVE?" https://beyondlive.com/faq/11 Edge on PC, and Safari on Mac. They seem to have both iOS and Android apps though. As well as supporting Air Play and Chromecast. Whether using a "non-recommended" browser like Chrome or Firefox will absolutely not work, is not stated. OK, I didn't see the FAQ page so that would explain AiddonValentine's post/rant on Microsoft Edge being used for this one. But overall, this doesn't make sense from both practical and technical standpoint. Both Microsoft Edge, and Google Chrome used Chromium (along with other browsers like Opera, Brave, and others if you go to Chromium's entry on Wikipedia). So I don't understand why make Microsoft Edge browsers for viewing when Google Chrome is basically the same thing that Microsoft Edge is. Also, majority of people that uses browsers uses Google Chrome, while a small majority uses Microsoft Edge. So, I'm baffled by Edge as recommended browsers over Google Chrome.

This is from the first link: "In accordance with copyright law and to protect the rights of our artists, we have decided to suspend Viewing Functionality within Beyond LIVE on web browsers other than our recommended browsers. This decision was very difficult to make, but we believe it is an important step to prevent copyright infringement and continue to provide legitimate content in the wake of the recent illegal distribution that has frequently occurred." |

I did read that part already when I looked at their FAQ page. But to me, it still doesn't make sense from a technical standpoint because as I said, both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome used Chromium so there shouldn't be any reason for restricting it to Edge when Chrome has the same capability like Microsoft Edge. As a matter of fact, Microsoft Edge already adapted many of the thing from Google Chrome because of Chromium so I don't understand what security stuff has Edge over Chrome since they're using the same browser technology. Microsoft Edge has long since then dropped their EdgeHTML which powered their previous Edge legacy browser which they discontinued in 2020 and since then the current Edge browser used Chromium browser engine from Google (which is the same thing is powering and being used by Google Chrome). So that's why I find this restriction ridiculous and baffling at the same time. |

To be honest, the Castlevania stage musical adaptation done by a Japan's well-famed Takarazuka Revue is so niche, I don't think it'll gained any traction in the US and elsewhere other then a small legion of Castlevania fans and maybe some international fanbase of that particular musical revue. I've seen K-pop idols musical actors/actresses acting in musical scene in South Korea getting more attention then this. So I don't think there's going to be a lot of torrenting or piracy for this one. |

They are probably relying on Microsoft's proprietary PlayReady DRM that traditionally has not been completely supported by Chrome on Windows, but seems to be about to be rolled out to Chrome on specific hardware configurations of PCs running Windows 11. https://windowsforum.com/threads/chrome-to-support-playready-drm-on-windows-11-for-enhanced-4k-streaming.374649/ "The benefits of PlayReady integration in Chrome extend beyond end users. Hm, that might probably explained it. But still, my point still stand about choosing Microsoft Edge over Google Chrome for DRM restriction and viewing this particular stream worldwide. They should've probably just made this event available on Netflix given that Netflix has been streaming some Japanese musical on there for quite a while. |

Well, likely for the same reason, Netflix only supports 4K UHD video on Edge for PCs. Chrome is limited to 1080p HD. https://help.netflix.com/en/node/30081 Same with Macs for Netflix. 4K UHD is only supported on Safari, Chrome is limited to 1080p HD. |

I'm also aware of this too, and that too doesn't make any sense to me when Edge is given 4K UHD (with no HDR) but that can bypassed if you have the Netflix app on your Windows PC (assuming one downloaded the app from the Windows store, and have the right hardware specification then you can have HDR on the Netflix app) despite both Chrome and Edge are using the same Chromium browser engine. So I expect Google Chrome to be upgraded to support 4K UHD (and probably HDR) in the near future. Also, I find it ironic and funny that Safari support 4K UHD because Apple's iPhone and iPad only allow you to watch stuff on Netflix via the app in 1080p (and depend on your iPhone, and iPad model can support HDR including Dolby Vision HDR) and not in 4K UHD. So that's quite awkward and redundant itself. Safari in 4K UHD, but iPhones/iPads can only do 1080p but come with HDR/Dolby Vision HDR (in some models). But we're getting off topic, I find it stupid that the stage musical stream is just limited to Microsoft Edge browsers and Safari when majority of browser users used Google Chrome and the fact that Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome used the same Chromium browser engine (along with other browsers that used Chromium like Opera, etc...) and the fact that Google Chrome can add the same security and DRM that can prevent the same piracy that Beyond LIVE claim is only found in Microsoft Edge browsers. |
