So here's how the new shows have gone:
Shows I haven't seen yet and might not at this rate. Oedo Fire Slayer Fate/Strange Fake Kaya-Chan's Not Scary Hana-Kimi Blood Altar Isekai Office Worker[/i [i]Yoroi Shinden Samurai Troopers Casebook of Arne I'm also trying to finish rewatching Hell's Paradise Season 1 so I can get on with season 2 while trying out new anime. Shows I dropped. Daily Life of a Part-Time Torturer A Misanthrope Teaches a Class of Demi-humans The Demon King's Daughter is Too Kind Roll Over and Die An Adventurer's Daily Grind at Age 29 A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendations Noble Reincarnation You Can't Be in a Rom-Com With Your Childhood Friends Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling Shows on my provisional list that I have serious doubts about. The Darwin Incident Tune in to the Midnight Heart Easygoing Territory Defense of an Optimistic Lord The Villainess is Adored by the Neighbor Prince Dead Account The Invisible Man and His Soon to Be Wife The Darwin Incident and Tune in to the Midnight Heart are in a weird zone where there were things I liked and things I disliked in equal measure. The rare anime where I watch them all the way through and then wind up frustrated at myself for it have almost all occupied that zone. Why Raelina Wound Up at the Duke's Mansion for example. The "I'm about 80% sure I'll Watch them all the way Through List" Hellmode Scum of the Brave Wash it All Away In the Clear Moonlit Dusk The Holy Grail of Eris Sentenced to Be a Hero Tamon's B-Side Champignon Witch There are things about all of these anime that I liked a lot that outweigh the smaller concerns. Champignon Witch in particular...I really like everything (a lot) except the narration. It's like the movie Bladerunner, which has a version without the narration that's much better in my opinion. The narrator of witch had cadence but isn't musical, never shows strong emotion, and tells me what the Witch is feeling before the anime proceeds with the scene where she's feeling something. Figuring things out for myself and soaking in the mood is why I can watch slow paced anime that drive a lot of people crazy. Having people tell me the mood and the motivation first is almost like a spoiler. Anime that are objectively worse than some of the previous anime but that I consumed like French Fries and which are just in my wheelhouse. Jack of All Trades Kunon the Sorceror Can't See There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero's Party Anime that had the strongest starts for me. Playing Death Games For Food You and I Are Polar Opposites Journal With Witch And that doesn't include the 6 returning anime I'm committed to. |

Oooooo, look at you Edjwald Scissorhands, cutting 9 shows when the paint hasn't even dried on the new season. Even I have only axed two so far: Part-Time Torturer and You Can't Be in a Rom-Com Etc. No doubt more are to come, but right now I'm sitting at 28 shows with 2 more sequels I feel very confident about to come.
Probably won't do any kind of comprehensive report until mid-season when, theoretically at least, everything likely to be dropped will have been dropped. |

At least I now have scientific evidence that - for me at least - this season is a lot stronger than the last. Why that matters I have no idea, but I'm convinced it's vitally important for some reason or other.
Last season I had three returning shows that I was into - this season I have six. Last season I only had one new show that I was really excited about (Tojiman Wants to be a Kamen Rider). This season I have three. Last season I only had one show that I was into with no reservations whether it was flawed or not (May I Ask For One Final Thing). This season I have three. Last season I only had two shows that I was strongly positive about (I ended up dropping Pass the Monster Meat Milady). This season I have eight. And I'll probably keep at least a few of the ones I'm wondering about - whether because I don't like something or they're just kind of bland. Right now I'm still watching 27 shows now that I've added Kaya Chan Isn't Scary to the roster, but I expect I'll be watching around 20 when the season is done. |

Of course, part of the reason why you've axed more shows than I have, is that you are more willing to take a flyer on a titles that may appear dubious to you but you are willing to give them a chance, regardless. I have a few of those, but way less than I did in the past. Like I said before, I'm not even sampling 95% of the isekai/fantasy titles on offer.

A pity since you do get to know some hidden gems by partaking in a bit of everything. That said, some shows have such a shocking first episode that it is not always a good thing. Takopi is my prime example, plenty was felt due to the premiere and none of it was positive.
@Edjwald that is an impressive list and number, I am only slightly higher and since I watch too much you are being quite generous this season. Though yes, Fall was very weak with only a few shows that you will remember. |

At the very least, I would have missed out on Tamon's B Side and Kaya Chan isn't Scary at some point. Idol anime generally make me break out in a rash, and I don't like stories about suffering little kids (which kind of ties back to Takopi's Original Sin in a roundabout way - I stand by my statement that I'm glad I watched it once but I'll never watch it again). I've only seen one series with a vampire love interest that I liked (the original Monogatari one) and Dark Moon Altar or Blood Moon Altar or whatever it's called apparently has tons of them, but I'll try to watch it too, at some point.

@ smurky: my "bleh" to "hidden gem" ratio is so high, I really don't care if I miss out on a show or two compared with wading through so much mid and bad.

Welp, since you've come perilously close to getting burned out on anime by consuming too much a time or too, you know what's best for you pard. Do what you gotta do to stay in the game.
But don't think I've forgotten how you're the one who conned me into the practice of giving almost everything a try so that I could be your land mine detector... ::::::::::::::holding on to grudge with closed eyes and tight fists:::::::::: |

Hey man, if you take the time to sample a show called A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendations that's on YOU, my friend!
eta: I got up ridiculously early today and with time on my hands, I decided to sample two titles that I had initially ignored: Roll Over and Die and Hell Mode. Wouldn't ya know it... I ended up liking both and have added them to my watching list. Medalist S2 starts today, so that will bring up my list to 32 shows. Last season, I was watching 3. Oh, how times change. There are a number of shows among those 33 that I'm still not totally sold on and past history shows me that sometimes around the middle of the season, I can go on a bit of a Drop tear. Don't know if that will happen this season or not... we'll see I guess. |

Welp, we're past the 3 episode barrier on all my shows, and I'm still watching 24 of the seasonal offerings, plus adding Fermat's Kitchen and April Showers bring May flowers which have cropped up on Amazon, watching one episode of each every Saturday for at least the near future.
I still have a couple of cusp shows that I might drop or stick with: Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, Easygoing Territory Defense, Tune Into the Midnight Heart, and The Invisible Man and his Soon to be Bride. I feel very lucky in that there are at least 4 shows that I'd consider masterpieces in motion so far, Frieren, Jujutsu Kaisen, Journal with Witch, and of course, perhaps outshining them all, the sublime There was a Cute Girl in the Hero's Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her. I can see an argument being made that Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider is total trash, and I can see an argument for it being a masterpiece - kind of like Kill Bill in that respect - but I love it. And I'm still watching all of the anime that I picked out as potentially interesting to me - No Chitose in the Ramune Bottle disappointments this season -, so that's a pretty good ratio. |
