I wish Viz would stop calling Zoro, Zolo, the 4Kids dub is no longer a thing.

So unless this is the first episode in an ongoing series, I guess they're just adapting a single short story. Not exactly the level of ambition seen in Fan Letter's blending of different stories, but probably best not to expect more on the level of Fan Letter. I'm glad Kamatani is getting this opportunity (and hope it means she gets to spearhead something Doremi in the future)

I mean considering the staff that's involved it will still be very ambitious even if it only covers a single story.

What about the listed staff indicates that to you?

Kamatani has a lot of impressive works under her belt. She directed the best Tiger Mask W episodes that still hold up, the Doremi movie was basically hers all things considered, she was an unit director on the highly successful The Birth of Kitaro and The First Slam Dunk movies as well.
Kojima is arguably one of the best animators of his generation and an amazing artist in general. If the aesthetic is anything like the second Egghead ending that he solo KAed, then we're in for a treat.
Both of them are talent magnets and the production schedule might be even longer for this than Fan Letter.

Ok so nothing about ambition other than speculation on the schedule, got it

I have no idea why you're being so dismissive. They MAKE ambitious things, that's the whole point, what's there so hard to understand?
It's being promotoed as a big thing on top of everything and some other well known staff members have already hinted at their participation on Twitter too.
It's the same as if you had questioned other prolific creators, ambitiousness is expected from them.

Nothing about what you wrote spoke about how ambitious the projects were, you just said they were good (and now you're just saying "it's expected", which is even flimsier lol)
Talent does not correlate to ambition on a specific project (and prior "success" even less so, for both talent and ambition). How much something is promoted has perhaps the least to do of all of it, since that doesn't even have anything to do with what we're talking about (also it's, you know, One Piece). As of now we have nothing to go off the scope and complexity of their work here that could indicate a level of ambition, we only have a key visual and settei. And now I suppose the fact that it's seemingly only adapting a single chapter, which as I already mentioned is in itself less ambitious than Fan Letter's interweaving of multiple narratives. So beyond just wanting it to be so (which yeah, I also want that), there isn't anything supporting your initial statement on how ambitious a production this is just from the staff list - hence the need for me to ask why you are even talking about it

Fan Letter melded a bunch of stuff but barely adapted the story it is named after, so it´s fair to say, going by this description, that this is another made-for-TV OVA made to advertise the existence of a non-canon EU. Like one of the movie advert eps but with twice the pre-production but half the runtime. I am sure that we will be drowned in actual spin-offs once the manga ends but taking away resources from the anime makes little sense financially till then. Especially as TOP may or may not become ongoing. Monsters was an actual adaptation but it doesn´t work as it´s only a pilot for a manga that never came.
