I really like that episode 5 made clear why the experienced and powerful veteran exorcists are not just able to blow away all of those nasty Dead Accounts with ease. I also appreciate there being an actual reason to train a new generation of exorcists. In way too many other similar series there is no reason why the monstrously overpowered leaders of the school do pretty much nothing to deal with the enemies themselves.
That aside, Sad Boy got away as expected and the fight between him and Yoimaru was a good motivator for the others. That healing power on display near the end was interesting. It has its limitations but by being a bit creative (and gory) it can be very effective.
And no, Glasses sensei is stubborn in his ways.

It's nice to see the three young exorcists who look to be the main focus of the anime becoming more united in purpose if not personality. At the beginning, I was afraid this was going to be one of those "Angst for the memories" screaming shows, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I agree that Gyaru Healer was an interesting addition to the cast of oddballs, and the principal's addiction to youth treatments is making me wonder how old (or ancient) she really is.
It was also good seeing goofball sensei show a little power and class.
And the revelation that there's a society of dead accounts with a specific agenda and a power behind Sad Boy that seems even more formidable was interesting.
I'm solidly liking the show.

I expected a tournament between exorcists to occur at some point but I did not expect nor did I hope for one this soon. With most shows like this there is more time spend on battles between humans with special abilities than on the threat they are supposed to be dealing with. Add that I like the concept of Dead Accounts and I am dreading an overly long tournament taking the remainder of the season.

Although the show did a good job of making me want to see the red-haired flame-baiter get his ass kicked. I will enjoy that immensely. Not sure if the rest of Class 1-A are huge a-holes like he is... I guess we'll see.

@Smurky - since they're students, it makes some sense that even though they do get sent out to face low level threats (When Glasshole isn't trying to get them killed) they'd spend more time training against each other.
@Blood - since Glasshole is their mentor, he's probably had a negative effect on Class A's ethos. Not a total impact, but kind of like how a coach can influence the behavior of a team outside of practice.

I think I got my wish with the tournament starting this week and it rapidly progressing. No long training arc but getting right into the action and likely showcasing how those two weeks will allow them to win. That is assuming overpowered Minoru does not take them all out though.
@Blood you got your answer this week with class 1-A not all being not-so-nice-people but most of them are or are a bit out there.
That tweet bit suggests that there is a traitor right?

I missed whatever that tweet bit was so I can't comment. Good start to the class battle. I'd have preferred that Psycho Glasses had been taken out but the fact they landed a hit and riled him up is at least something.

This comment is aimed at Smurky unless there's some lurker out there watching both this show and Kunon the Sorceror Can See.
It kind of struck me how both shows present all supernatural types as a little off their nut, but Kunon does it in a much more benign fashion. Has there been a single halfway emotional stable exorcist on this show yet?
The world of dead accounts thing that the bad guys seem to be aiming at reminded me of a fairly bad movie with Kristin Bell that I saw a long time ago. It had something to do with ghosts crossing over into our world when we reached some tipping point with the atmosphere being saturated with wireless signals and whatnot. Basically, earth was turned into a place where the only places that weren't dead zones supernaturally were places that were dead zones in terms of cell phone reception.

Y'know, when a Shoujen anime breaks into a series of battles, I sort of dread the prospect of people standing around talking and analyzing their attacks for long minutes at a time even if its supposed to be midpunch. I also dread the inevitable series of flashbacks that are sure to break up every fight scene.
But I have to say, the flashback of this episode had a surprising amount of impact.
Still solidly enjoying this anime.

The episode matched your comment about there being a lot of nutjobs in the show rather well. Given how most exorcist families seem to treat their children it is no wonder that so many of them are utterly messed up. In Kunon it is the fun kind while here they are simply deranged. That includes flame boy who is getting excited by the thought of burning someone's fingers off.
Renri is a surprise, he can handle himself very well and his ability is damn handy to have around.

Every episode that goes by without that Red-Headed Douchebag getting curb-stomped is torture for me. Maybe next week? But yeah, like JKK it seems that Exorcist families really suck.

Funny you should mention that Red-Headed Douchebag Blood. He was defeated this week but given how utterly disgusting he and his flashback were I do not feel good about it at all. Just very icky. The girl fight was not much better sadly. I did chuckle at the hypnosis guy getting hit by his own technique but otherwise it was not an episode I enjoyed.

Yeah, I found the Enshiro - Gross Douchebag resolution unsatisfying, too. And super could have down without the knowledge that GD was getting his sexual jollies from his freakish attitude of enjoying being hated. Yuck. Anyway, I wonder what that ghost account that has been detected in the battle area is all about...

I wasn't as grossed out by Flamebaiter II or maybe I'll just call him Lamebaiter? as some of y'all were since I kind of emotionally distanced myself from those goings on the first time his tongue came out while screaming insults with glazed eyes. The revelation that this was some kind of fetish wasn't exactly a surprise. But I was still disappointed that I didn't get to see him getting his teeth kicked down his throat.
I agree that the draw between the two types of stalker fans was kind of bland, but at the same time, I was interested in the harem queen's ability. She becomes romantically obsessed and then gains the powers of people who she gets to become romantically obsessed with her in return? One of the things I like about this show is the way it gets creative translating social media addiction into different kinds of super powers. It feels kind of fresh.
Apparently all of these exorcists are just loopy because of their upbringing...they're a bit like the (entertainingly) unhinged Kamen Rider fans in Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider Having an at least semi-crazed obsession is one of the triggers for their developing supernatural abilities.

1,000% agree and the two different types of stalker queens is a perfect example of that. The one who focuses exclusively on one target has cyber-kinesis that manifests as sticky goo which is a great visual tag for the "clingy" stalker type. The other girl uses "sock puppets" to find out as much as she can about her targets and if the target of the day actually shows interest back, she immediately rejects him in as cruel a way as possible. So her cyber-kinesis manifesting as a landmine is again the perfect visual metaphor for her behaviour. Smart stuff.
