It's interesting that Robert is the new Mr. Karate here in City of the Wolves, because in the main Art of Fighting/Fatal Fury canon it's Ryo who inherits the Mr. Karate mantle from his father Takuma, as can be seen in games like Buriki One and in some non-canon entries like Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition. From a gameplay standpoint it does make sense that they chose Robert, since Marco already shares a lot of moves with Ryo and Takuma, but Robert has his own unique moves, with more emphasis on kicks. still I want to see the in-story explanation on how Robert became the new Mr. Karate. I also want to see Robert interacting with Yuri.
Side note, I like how the trailer features Robert's theme music from The Path of the Warrior: Art of Fighting 3, that game has become quite popular in recent years, it's very different from the previous two Art of Fighting games, and most SNK fighting games in genral, it's like a weird mixture of a traditional 2D fighter, with some Virtua Fighter/Tekken influences.

It's a shame though cos everybody criticizes Ryo Sakazaki as a Street Fighter clone and he was saved by Hiroaki who have him the more original Mr. Karate design

Ryo became Mr Karate 2 so maybe that why Robert is Mr Karate 1

Takuma was Mr. Karate 1, as seen in the original Art of Fighting, which took place in the late 1970s.

Ryo was Mr. Karate 2, as seen in Buriki One. which takes place in 1999.

So that would make Robert Mr. Karate 3, since City of the Wolves takes place around 2006 or so (Mark of the Wolves canonically took place "10 years" after Real Bout Fatal Fury, which happened in 1995, & CotW takes place one year after MotW).

Robert being Mr. Karate makes very little sense compared to Yuri taking up the role after finally getting serious about martial arts, but that would require them to make a middle-aged Yuri which they are probably scared to do

If Art Of Fighting 4 ever becomes a thing I could see them aging her up but not too drastically. But even then Yuri taking up the role would be more of an in joke that a sensible choice.
