Have you contacted the folks you bought it from? It'd probably be faster to try the retailer route than the publisher route.

It's Best Buy. I know they won't do jack s**t.

They won't let you exchange a defective product for the same product? Somehow, I doubt that... just go tell 'em the discs don't work and you need a new one. (Assuming they do say no, you can probably complain your way up the ladder and get a freebie gift card out of it or something.)

Sheesh. I didn't have any issues playing volume 1 but on the second disc in episode 8 it starts freezing and skipping about minute after the opening theme. I sent my message off to Bandai so I guess now I just sit and wait for a reply.

Does Bandai normally take a long time to reply? I've been waiting for a reply about my manga problem (I contacted rightstuf and they replied right way saying that they didn't carry the manga so they couldn't replace it and gave me the bandia link) and I'm starting to get a little irratated...

All this talk is making me a bit nervous...I did wait until RightStuf's recent Bandai sale (the last day of it, no less) to order my copy of the LE, so I'm probably pretty far back in line. I'll occasionally see "In Stock and Available" on the product page, but it goes right back to "On Order from Manufacturer" before long. I'm hoping as hard as I can that when RightStuf finally gets around to shipping out my copy, Bandai will have figured out what's wrong and I'll get a defect-free one. Razz

Out of curiosity though, does anyone here with the Code Geass DVDs in their possession have a copy that doesn't skip? Unless I overlooked someone, most people here got a bad copy.

For those with the errors on disc 2 I can shed some light on what is wrong. (I am a professional Digital Designer and have experience with some DVD authoring) It seems the second volume uses ArCoS encoding which creates DELIBERATE bad sectors (bad areas) on the DVD so as to prevent piracy. Supposedly, the discs have coding that tells the DVD player to skip those bad sectors. However, the problem is that ArCoS encodes are very buggy and will often result in the DVD player skipping to other sections of a movie or show. Examples: the DUNE special edition. skips roughly 5 minutes of the film, Shoot Em Up; doesn't skip anything but often displays the message 'skipping bad sector, or skipping damaged area' and Code Geass vol 2 skips from 1hr 33 min and 14 seconds to 1:34:30. Bottom Line. Companies need to find a secure way to stop piracy rather than buggy methods that create poor quality products. I can only hope someone from Bandai reads this and is smart enough to realize that things need to change. (I've experienced this with 2 funi releases so far and 1 geneon release in the past as well)

In this case, exchanging for another copy probably won't make a bit of difference. It seems that the entire batch is bad and that how well it plays is probably a player issue rather than a disc issue.

If there's any truth to this, and especially if I happen to be among those affected once my Part I set arrives, I am not going to be a happy camper, nor will many others when their turn comes (or continues to, since many other reports are already available across the net).

Bandai should know that, if anything, this is actually going to make more people stick with piracy than preventing any of it at all.

Everyone who wanted to watch Code Geass through illegal methods has already done so and most could care less about these DVDs. Or they might be content to stick with the Adult Swim version, if they happen to follow it. Those few that want to buy the DVDs, like me, want to support a legal release (even if that includes paying for international shipping, like in my case, which isn't exactly making me smile).

But that's how they intend to thank us for supporting the legal release of a series?

Piracy is not going to be stopped by clumsily sabotaging their own DVD release as part of some poorly thought copy protection mechanism, I can tell you that.

Hmmm, if this is right then won't all disks have the problem? And seeing as how nobody has responded to Evelas' request to report good disks, I am inclined to believe Stullz.

What annoys me are unskippable previews or ads at the beginning of disks. Funimation: We know you own the world. We already support you. We know how to find out what you will be releasing in the future. Stick with the paper inserts.

My Pioneer Dvd player can skip most of the previews or adds from Funimation. (I have one of their upconvert Dvd players)

Well my first DVD is buggy, it started pausing and then moving ahead like, one or two seconds, and then pausing again during episode 4. It got so bad that I couldn't finish the episode. Interestingly enough, I tried watching the audio commentary for episode 4 and it started having the exact same problem on the same scene, I would bet it was at the exact same time as well. I was watching in the Japanese with subtitles option and the commentary is simply the voice actors/staff talking over the language track, if their quite for a second you can hear what the characters are saying. And now I'm betting that my second DVD is buggy too, grr, I already have to ship back the manga as well, this is going to cost more than I care to pay at the post office...

This error does seem to be effecting the whole batch. I exchanged my disc at Best Buy yesterday, and it still skips and freezes up in the exact same spots on all 5 players I've tested.

(furthermore, when My Otome vol. 4(I think) was recalled, I had my local best buy test each in stock copy they had, hoping to exchange for a good one, but they were all bad) It seems to be the same with the Code Geass DVD vol.2 (or at least the special ed. one)

Has anyone had any luck with the stand alone version?

@DerekTheRed- you can get passed the ads most of the time by using the title button. It works most of the time on my Mac's SuperDrive.

I hope Bandai releases a Press Release about the issue soon, so I can confirm my theory about this. (It was based on fact, but there are still a few holes in my knowledge, so far I've been been correct about each of the DVD's I've had issues with except 2. It was different encode error for those.)

I got my reply from Bandai. Apparently I'm to pay shipping to send them the bad disc, but at least they didn't ask for self addressed return shipping for the replacement.

I was worried about that happening, if I wait awhile before I send my DVD into Bandai for an exchange does that mean I am less likely to get a buggy one?
