OK, I've been doing some browsing on the Internet, and I was trying to plan on some series to acquire sometime in the near future.
I've seen lots of series that are released completely in the form of box sets containing the whole series. And, some that are completed, but only have a box with the first DVD, therefore causing you to buy the rest of the DVDs individually and just putting them in the box.
Is there any chance some of these (single DVDs w/ box only) will ever be released in a ready to go complete box set, cased together? Or, is there some technical or marketing problem with doing that?
Some examples I've seen of this are: X (TV), Full Metal Panic!, Haibane Renmei (though the last DVD just came out, I think), and some other ones I can't remember at this moment.
Any comments? And thanks in advance!

There's a complete Full Metal Panic! box set here at my local Sam Goody's.
So I'd assume that they're available elsewhere as well.

A lot of series are released with the single dvds and box w/ dvd 1 at first. Then after the series if released that way, provided there is a market for it, they often release the series in one whole economic boxed set. Usualy its a matter if wating.
I personally am waiting for a Rah Xephon set....

Provided the series is popular enough, there will always eventually be a boxed set. It's just a waiting game to see how much you really want the series. Patience, my young man, patience.

IMO, I have doubts that there will be full box releases of many of the popular series. Why? Because many of the DVD 1 x/box releases were a LE release. Thus, it would devoid the LE status by later releasing the box. Even the ones that were not LE w/box, it would cost the company additional expenses in changing the packaging, though the box was already released anyway (w/DVD1). I don't see that it would make much logical sense to release the boxset.

YOu could always do bundles, like what they did with The Big O and Crest of the stars.
Despite 6-disc bundles being ugly, it's the only option to go unless they want to make another box.

Well, a lot of these releases are 7 discs (Noir, Full Metal Panic, RahXephon, many other ADV titles), and I don't know if they make a 7 disc clamshell case.

Viz managed to do a nice, smaller size box set for Ayashi no Ceres. If companies would use the thin-paks or just combine a couple of double disc boxes, then we could easily have large disc count box sets without the huge size. I've been picking up some box sets with the new cheaper releases coming out.

I love the thin-paks for DVD boxes. Those Futurama releases are great... as is the Firefly set.

Actually... street date for the last DVD of FMP! was 02/17/04
It's been out for awhile. The second season hasn't been picked up yet (or at least announced as such,) but I figure it's all a matter of time.

The whole "limited edition" thing is only good for the extras that come with the box. Blood pack (Hellsing), shot glass and t-shirt (Witch Hunter Robin) and baseball cap (Kiddy Grade). An identical boxset could pop up in less than a year after the completion of the original boxset ends. If the demand is there, of course.

The Martian Sucessor Nadesico - Complete Chronicles comes in a clamshell case; and the DVDs are the same as the traditional single DVD package. Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - Perfect Collection is the same way. So the cases exist, they are just not that common.

Both Nadesico and BGC are only 6 disc releases.

Pity the BGC OVAs left out some of the extras like the live action version of "Hurricane Tonight".
