Okay, yeah, you successfully shamed me.
I'll try, let me know if there are any problems with it.
Gourry Gabriev, Slayers Description: A traveling swordsman who first seemed like dashing warrior, he is quickly revealed to be rather slow-witted. Still, he successfully helped the sorceress Lina Inverse to defeat a group of bandits. Afterward, he stays with her, feeling bound by duty to serve as her bodyguard until she reaches Atlas City. Hero Qualifications: Though it does not stick out immediately past his fighting ability, one of Gourry's prominent qualities is gentleness, and he extends a quiet compassion. His unique, somewhat innocent way of looking at things allows him to be very open to people and look at situations differently than others. As such, he provides help willingly to those who need it and can give help that could not be given by others. The only hotheaded behavior he regularly demonstrates is fighting with Lina over food, and despite his strength, his hostility is never unprovoked. Whatever else he forgets, he never forgot his loyalty and always continued fighting for the sake of his friends, even when he became mixed up in a plan to destroy the world. |

Hmm, I actually don't know much about Sailor Moon since I have only seen a few episodes. I only nominated her because I heard so many good things about her. Here's a profile for Usagi Tsukino aka Sailor Moon off the few episodes that I have seen and Wikipedia.
Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon Description: Starting off as well intentioned ordinary school girl, Usagi Tsukino eventually becomes a powerful warrior of love and justice. Hero Qualifications: Sailor Moon is a capable and kind-hearted magical girl heroine. She is so kind-hearted that she often tries to help everyone even her enemies. She does this by trying to persuade them the error of their ways. Beyond that, Sailor Moon's character is marked by the ability for her to spread the message to peace and love to all even to those who may not agree with her message. Her unmatched levels of kindness and compassion are backed up by power; she eventually becomes the strongest Senshi in the universe. I know people have lives outside of the forum, and I'm sorry if I sounded pushy. It's just that it would be so nice if we could be a tad more organised this time around. And of course, whatever we don't do, Key has to take care of. So it would be nice if we helped him out a bit, don't you think? |

Tohru Honda, Fruits Basket
Description: An orphaned 16-year old high school student who lives and interacts with the cursed Sohma family. Heroine Qualifications: She might not be fighting evil forces and have great powers to protect her friends. But Tohru is a pure-hearted girl who puts the well being of others before herself. Through the lessons about life she learned from her dead mother Kyoko, Tohru maintains a positive outlook on life despite her hardships and has been able to befriend and encourage those with their own troubles to think of the good things in life. Her presence in the life of the cursed Sohmas becomes a blessing to them as they befriend an outsider who accepted them for the people that they are. Keiichi Maebara, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) and sequels Description: The new kid in Hinamizawa who finds himself tangled up in the troubles facing his new circle of friends and a string of mysterious murders and disappearances that have plagued the town for years during it's annual town festival. Hero Qualifications: Keiichi cares a great deal for the new circle of friends he makes in Hinamizawa. As he learns of the hardships faced by his friends, Keiichi does what he can to help them overcome their problems and encourage them to stand up to the problems they face. He is even shown at some points of the series to stand up to figures of authority in the town if they fail to do anything to help his friends out. Hitomi Kanzaki- Escaflowne TV series Description: A high school student who finds herself whisked away to the world of Gaea upon encountering Van Fanel battling a dragon while on Earth. Heroine Qualifications: Being whisked away to Gaea amplified Hitomi's psychic power which she uses a great deal to aid Van and her new friends on Gaea from the forces of Zaibach. Having the power to see the future and see things that others can't, Hitomi has rushed into battles and put her life at risk on enough occasions to expose what only she can see and warn others of incoming dangers. @dtm: I don't have a problem typing in profiles when I can if I'm familiar enough with said characters. But I want to think of typing these entries as something fun and not work that I'm obligated to do just because I nominated said characters. There's no need to make a big deal out of it. |

I think the actual concern is for the more obscure series with characters that only ended up with 2 or 3 votes. For the characters that got over 5 or so votes, the write-ups will come in at a decent clip, probably from people other than the original nominators (It's already happened with Duck and Onizuka). Also, with the nomination process this time, even if all else fails, there is the description that was required for an initial recommendation available. Some of them aren't quite at the same level as the write-ups, but they're better than nothing. Except the one for Kikuchiyo (and a couple others). By the way, after going looking up which one he was (I'd forgotten), I'm a little surprised he's in, but not Kambei. Anyway, I've got my 4 done, and Mad_Scientist is finished, plus two extra. Ggultra and JO are chipping away at their lists. If anything, I'm worried about the two submission from blazingeyes, who has 2 posts total in the forums, and the initial submissions (Sakata Gintoki, Gintama & Misaka Kirihara, Darker Than BLACK) only had a one sentence description. Especially Sakata, since the only other person supporting that choice (Kouga13) also hasn't posted in nearly two weeks. Also, the people who's nominations I seconded in the last couple days are pretty much on their own for making those write-ups, but I'm pretty sure most of those were made by reliable forum members. |

Yes, I realize that, which is why I commented to show that I do intend to get the write-ups done, just not anytime in the too near future (but probably sometime tomorrow I can get started on them). |

On a side note, I'm afraid I have very little knowledge of the more obscure series listed, so I won't be much help in write-ups for those. |

Agreed, that is true, running this without help and organization would be rather difficult. You're right, we should do all that we can to help make it successful, afterall, it's been done in the past, we'll do it again. I like your idea of people who made nominations should be responsible for doing the write ups for the respective characters. However, people such as JesuOtaku and Ggultra2764 and LydiaDianne have quite a few items on their plate if you know what i mean. So if anyone has seen shows and konw the characters that they did, perhaps give some aid to them in doing it, since doing something like 10 write ups wouldn't really be fun, and would take quite a bit of time. But to those who only did a few, or 1, perhaps doing your own write ups would be efficient. -Elfen12- |

Van Flyheight, Zoids: Chaotic Century
Description: A teenage orphan who one day comes across a young girl named Fiona and a small Zoid named Zeke he awakens from stasis in some ruins he encountered while being chased by bandits. Hero Qualifications: This kind-hearted young man does he what he can to aid Fiona in discovering her past. His good natured personality allows him to befriend others easily and he will go out of his way to protect Fiona and his friends from enemy attack using the Shield Liger Zoid he acquired when Zeke revived it at the ruins that Van found him and Fiona. Sorata Arisugawa, X/ 1999 Description: A Buddhist monk who arrives in Tokyo to aid the Dragons of Heaven in their upcoming apocalyptic battle against the Dragons of Earth. Hero Qualifications: This carefree and upbeat young man has a way of creeping into the hearts of his fellow Dragon of Heaven with his optimism, including the hardened Arashi and Kamui. He fully accepts the duty of saving the Earth at the cost of his life and is willing to put his life at risk to ensure the survival of his fellow Dragons of Heaven, especially with Kamui and Arashi. Renton Thurston, Eureka 7 Description: A 14-year old boy whose puppy love crush on Eureka and his admiration of Holland Novak's lifting lead him to join up with the renegade group known as Gekko State. Hero Qualifications: Renton's character can be described as being flawed from the start and gradually improving as the show progresses. He starts off as a compassionate, yet naive, boy who lets his emotions get the better of him, especially as he learns more about Gekko State and its conflicts with the military. His emotional outbursts lead him to frequent conflicts with Holland and Eureka. In addition, he acts impulsive when he goes into battle with military KLFs using the Nirvash. But as the series progresses, Renton's character matures as he learns to strive for his own ideals as he protects Gekko State, Eureka, and civilians from military influence. While in battle with his new maturity, Renton strives to not harm the pilots of the KLF as he instead chooses to disable their mecha not wanting to take any lives in battle. This side of him increasingly earns him the respect of everyone aboard the Gekko State and further deepens his bond with Eureka. |

Yeah, that would be nice. I believe JesuOtaku has fifteen nominations, which is nearly an eighth of the total. That's a tad too much for one person to do. |

Oh, the guilt.
Roy Mustang, Fullmetal Alchemist Description: A powerful alchemist and a colonel in the military. Also a war hero from the Ishballan rebellion. What Makes Him A Hero: Although Roy may appear to be a shrewd officer eternally on the lookout for a promotion, he always acts in the best interest of his fellow soldiers and his country, to the point of sacrificing any hope of furthering his career in order to do the right thing. His goal isn't to push himself to the top of the ranks for his own sake - he wants to be able to use his authority to ensure a fair and peaceful country for everyone, and to make amends for his past mistakes. I'll do one more too, 'cause I totally love this character: Juna Ariyoshi, Earth Girl Arjuna Description: An ordinary high school girl who accepted the powers and duties of the Avatar of Time in order to save herself after she died in a motorcycle accident. What Makes Her A Hero: Juna recieved what is probably one of the shortest stick ends in all hero-dom. Not only was she practically forced to accept her new powers and responsiblities (chief amongst them the responsibility of stopping enormous monsters representing pollution from destroying the earth), but she's given very little direction about how to properly use and control them, and sadly doesn't entirely realize what she's capable of until it's almost too late. Still, she remains kind and open-hearted throughout it all, and finally makes the decision to save the day at great cost to herself. Darn, I was kinda hoping people would forget that I had nominated some characters....
Gohan, Dragon Ball Z Description: A Z-warrior half-saiyan who defends the planet from danger. Oldest son of Goku. Hero Qualifications: Much like his father, Goku, Gohan has a strong sense of justice and uses it to defend Earth and Namek from threats. In the Great Saiyaman Saga, Gohan even dons his own alter-ego superhero costume in order to fight crime around the city incognito. Goku is away during large segments of the show and Gohan most certainly picks up what Goku cannot do and fights with the other Z-warriors throughout the entire series and helps take the lead where his father would have. Taichi Keaton, Master Keaton Description: A renaissance man who uses his many talents to help people. Hero Qualifications: Taichi Keaton is often found doing good deeds for others using his intelligence and skills. He always helps out the little guy in situations where he would be of use and is willing to risk his life to save the lives of others. Even when he doesn't have to help, he's still willing to lend a hand, such as when he was taken off a hostage situation case, but stayed on to negotiate anyway for the sake of the hostage's family. Keaton proves that it's not about having brains or skills, it's who you use it for and how. I'm personally glad that Mad_Scientist did Duck's write-up, I don't think I would've written it any better and probably would've written it a lot worse (I can't tell if my writing of these is any good, feel free to tell me...seriously, feel free to edit the heck out of these if you determine my writing of them to be terrible, Key). I kinda got the feeling that Mad_Scientist was itching to do the write-up for Duck and I'm sure that there are other characters like that on the roster that people will want to do the write ups for regardless of wether or not they nominated them themselves. Kinda can't think of what to write for Fakir now... I have a slight problem in that I was the one who nominated Arusu form Tweeny Witches, a show which I only saw the first several episodes of before I decided to just stop watching it. It's easy to nominate based on what she did at the beginning, but I couldn't come up with any concrete examples of what she does heroic in detail. But I think she got two more seconds, did anyone else finish the show and might be more capable than I of a write-up for Arusu? *edit* Key wants some pictures, here's the ones for who I've done the write-ups for so far: Astro Boy (couldn't resist putting the retro image there Gohan Another tough picture to try and come up with, like Astro, he has several looks... Taichi Keaton not sure if this is the exact same image as last tourney, I forget Last edited by zawa113 on Mon Mar 16, 2009 12:43 am; edited 1 time in total |

OFFICIAL PAIRINGS:
http://www.usaanime.us/HeroTourney/HeroTourneyPairings.xls (Please note that this is an Excel spreadsheet.) This file has the pairings that will be used for the tournament when it starts next week. It can be filled out for minigame purposes; I suggest adding the character name below the group code. ccdx will comment on an appropriate time frame for submitting these, since I am not involved in that directly. For those that are interested, I broke the top performers down into primary (top 8) and secondary (9-16) seeding blocks and randomly mixed things so that each grouping of four consecutive initial pairings has exactly one seed and each of the four letter groups has two seeds from each level. That means that no seeds will be be able to meet each other before the fourth round. Their positioning within each block is scrambled, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out who they are if you were paying attention during the later stages of the voting process. That should prevent any early powerhouse match-ups. And yes, the bracketing does have Simon and Kamina from Gurren Lagann both in Group D and lined up for a potential Group Finals showdown. That was totally random, and I'm going to let it stand because, if it happens, I'd be really, really interested to see who would win. Anyway, keep plugging away at the prospective Guide entries and include picture links if you can. (Especially for more obscure series.) If more than one entry for a character is posted, I'll either choose the better of the two or else edit them together. I'll probably start sorting that mess out Tuesday night. |

Noa Izumi, Patlabor
Description: New officer of the Tokyo labor police and ace pilot of the second squadron. Qualifications: Noa is a zealous paragon of virtue, a being of pure Law and Good delivering justice to labor criminals and protecting civilians in need. ...Ok, maybe not. Noa is an enthusiastic, young officer of the labor division of the Tokyo police. Tasked with the largely thankless duty of handling labor crimes, Noa is zealous in the capture of criminals, but she does not, as a whole, get lost in the heat of the moment and recklessly endanger civilians or properties. She is careful to protect the safety of the citizens, not merely in adherence to protocol and duty but also out of genuine concern for their well-being. Noa is a well-balanced police officer and an ace pilot who can be considered a guardian of the city, despite having an ordinary and largely procedural job. Robin Sena, Witch Hunter Robin Description: A fire wielding and somewhat vision-impaired witch used by a secret organization to hunt down rogue users of magic. Qualifications: As a hunter, Robin is willing to uphold the rule that the organization has set when there is no clear evidence that such is harmful, and she is zealous in carrying out her duty when confronted with a dangerous criminal. She is a sensitive girl who is quite capable of developing her own morals and recognizing when authority has overstepped its bound of claims, and in such moments she shows a kindness that is not readily apparent for a character in such a position. Robin is an excellent mix of law and good without compromising either. |
