Anyone have an idea what the new Princess Tutu collection coming out in March is? I notice it's listed at several sites, but there are no details about what differences, if any, there are between it and the old collection.
I notice that it's got a slightly lower suggested retail price than the old collection, and thus is cheaper than the it at most places. Hmm... Here are some links: Old collection at Right Stuff New collection at Right Stuff |

If it's anything like the Mahoromatic Collection I recently got, then don't expect any extras at all. Also expect packaging that pretty much mirrors Taiwanese bootlegs.
I'd suggest getting the slightly more expensive box set if you want the extras and/or pretty packaging. |

Yeah, ADV has been cutting all of the extras out of their newest line of re-releases.
I have the older set you pointed out, and it has a ton of good extras, like commentaries, a "making of" featurette, outtakes, art galleries, and featurettes about the music selections in each volume. Much more than just the standard clean opening/closing, this set had some of the best extras I've found in a box set, and it'd be a shame if they weren't included on the upcoming release. |

Ohh wow I didn't know there was going to be a rerelease. Good thing I didn't get my box set yet--though I don't mind not having extras, still my sister has the box set and those extras were freaking nice. Though would it cost alot of money to just re-add them? They already have them...
I'm glad I know about this now, can't wait to see the new box art (hopefully new box art) |

Yah, I'd actually like the extras for Princess Tutu, even though I'm normally not a huge Extras person, but I'm not a big fan of the box art of the old set. I read one amusing Amazon review by a guy who bought the series based on reviews, not fully knowing what to expect. He loved the series, but commentated on how the box art didn't exactly make a good impression on him: "it looks like a hooker in a cage," his wife said when it arrived. It's weird, because Rue's not the main character and never even wears anything like that in the show. |

Yeah, the Rue cover is a bit... off. And one of my friends said you couldn't really tell what the series was about by reading the back. The extras were really great though, especially for dub fans. Commentaries, videos of the cast doing recordings (Luci Christian is adorable), videos detailing the original ballets the episodes came from...
My guess would be they'll leave out the extras as a sacrifice for fewer discs, making a cheaper price for everybody. 6 episodes a disc is nice, but ADV really went all-out with the extras on this show and it would be a shame not to have them in my opinion. |

You can see the cover of the new collection at Right Stuff now. Much better artwork than the old collection, in my mind. Not that the old was really "bad," it just didn't fit the series. I'll probably wait to buy either until I find out for sure if the new collection has the extras removed or not.

do you know infuriating this gorgeous cover makes me? The Rue cover is hideous and there's weird little dot lines that look like fold lines on the box and stuff, I might have to print out the new one and put it over the old ugly one (hooray for printers!) seriously, this totally infuriates me, why didn't ADV come out with a good cover like this one to begin with? it probably would've upped their sales. besides, some of their other series have multiple covers that both don't suck (like Cro high, except I got the singles on that one). I'm not too happy with their new Kino's Journey cover myself, makes me not want it. |

As someone who prefers subs, I didn't think much of the extras.
And as a fan of classical music, I was very annoyed when the "expert" on the commentary failed to correct his co-commentator's assumption that the Romeo & Juliet Fantasy-Overture is the overture to the Romeo & Juliet ballet! (The overture is a stand-alone piece by Tchaikovsky; the ballet was written by Prokofiev many years later.) |

If the first collection had extras chances are high that this one will as well. Aren't they basically just reusing the same discs from the old collections?
Edit: Looks like it will contain extras: http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=91251&page=3 if you scroll down to post #27 an ADV representative confirms the extras. |

I'll agree there that the title will never be masked from thoughts of girlishness, no matter how risque the cover may be. The new one is cuter, but I won't diss the old one. Arguments about covers aside, I'm just happy to see ADV is doing at least SOMETHING. I hardly hear a peep about them nowadays, especially since they stopped sending our club demo disks. It's always a disappointment to have a company go quietly into the night, or even worse to hit a brick wall and never get up again. Buyers may never fully agree with them, but they are part of the industry and were (are) key players for years. |
