I went to my local manga store and I saw an Akira book, so I picked it up and I noticed that the pictures from the book were from the actual anime... I mean whats the point??? Just watch the anime then. Sheesh

Yes. Not only is the idea horrible and shamelessly lazy, but the name is just so emberassing (it's "Cine-Manga," by the way, not "Animanga). Gah... Tokyopop...

It has key dialog and narration. The point would be that some people rather read the book than watch the anime, or they want to just have it in bookformat.

I bought the Spirited Away Cine-manga (Japanese) from a Kinokuniya before we got the movie domestically *doesn't trust Disney*.
I kind of agree though, I think they are rather pointless. The only advantage is that you get a lot of pretty cel shots.

cine-mangas are always going to be bad. manga and anime are two very diffrent things, each with diffrent energies. when you take away alot of what helped give an anime its energy (animation, music) and just show still shots, no matter how good the story is its still going to be inferior to the anime. i also find that mangas that were based on animes are usually inferior. thats probobly because your handing a concept developed by many different people to one or two people who are going to put their own twist on it.

It's actually a pretty popular form in Japan and here in the states. They're mostly intended for children; they're incredibly cheap to produce, and give the hardcore fans something new to buy and little kids something to enjoy. They suck, undoubtedly, but it's not like I have to buy them.

I guess if you really wanted to save money, you might look into them.
For $10 you could get an Inuyasha AniManga that covers episodes 1-3, or for about $20, a DVD with episodes 1-3.

well I don't care for them much but some die hard fans of shows do. My brother has one of the inuyasha animanga and wants the upcoming trigun ones. I could care less I don't like them much either. the disney ones tokyopop does I don't like much either but I'm sure really young kids do and I am however interested in the family guy manga coming out

Eh, stupid book that I don't buy. The only thing that hurts me about it is when I search online for manga and I get KIM POSSIBLE Cine-Manga, and Fairly Oddparents, and Spongebob, UGH! Annoying!

I hate cinemange or animanga or whatever you call it. When I saw the InuYasha animanga in the store the first thing out of my mouth was that whoever came up with the idea should be shot. The person working in the store told me I wasn't being very nice and my sister started laughing at me.

Since this 2 years after the last post, I have noticed that animanga is in no short supply. That means someone has to be buying them.
I was wondering if anyone who reads ANN buys them and why.
I personally think it is just a gimick.

I don't waste my money on them. Why buy photographs of something that you already have on DVD?
Of course, to play devil's advocate, it is a great way to suck in new people into anime and manga. For a young newbie, it may work out just fine.
