Hey, i just saw here at ANN that viz is releasing Flame of Recca starting in october, and that they've already released some of the manga.
I heard about it on a certain site as a bootleg awhile back (i was just looking, no buying) and it looked real cool. Someone said it was similar to Yu Yu Hakusho and Kenshin (2 shows i love) I just ordered the first 3 mangas the other day but i wanna know others opinions about it. Danke, sehr gut! |

Flame of recca would of been good, what it lacks is a good ending and a rip of of Yu Yu Hakusho.
Yu Yu Hakusho is 10 times better then Flame of Recca. |

C'mon, the basis for each story is completely different. The only thing that seems to show up that they have in common (with regard to the anime) is a fighting tournament. Recca's biggest fault (animewise) is that the ending strayed so far from the manga story that there is really no way to pick it back up. In the end, I'd suggest the manga over the anime.

I have the anime fansubbed and I was completely and utterly dissapointed with the ending. The ending makes the show a near complete waste of money the manga however is quite excellent and I'm glad I got scanlations of it before it's licensing mainly because the series is 33 volumes long and Viz is not all that fast. I can't wait to purchase all of the Recca manga when it is finally released though.

Going off of a tangent from the original question:
I seem to remember hearing that Viz was going to include the first episode(s?) of FoR in an upcoming special edition of Animerica Magazine. (Yeah, I was surprised too.) However, tonight I go looking for the article again, so that I won't miss the special issue, and I can't find it. Does anyone else remember hearing about this, or did I just dream this one up? Thanks in advance. |

Personally, I think that video's animation style's just a rip-off of the kind used in A-Ha's Take On Me. But then most people on here are too young to know who I'm talking about, unless they think of the Reel Big Fish cover.

Flame of Recca is one of my all time favorite series. As has been noted, the manga is better. The art is better, and the story is MUCH more complete. Basically, the anime is faithful to the manga (mor or less) until about volume 15, and then it covers one or two volumes rather haphazardly (skipping plot points and adding stuff in an attempt to tie it up, and then it ends. The Manga then goes on for about 15 more volumes, ending at 33.
The anime's ending I found very funny, since they basically resolve the primary situation they're in (the tournament), but the characters openly discuss how many nagging plotthreads are left unresolved (all of which are wrapped in in the manga of course) The manga, without spoiling it, has THE most solid and complete ending of any animated series ever, worth getting to. The whole series, like many fight anime, is based on having a core team of fighters, a large team of supporting characters largely culled from defeated foes, and numerous gimicks designed to split the characters up so that they have tp fight one on one. If you like that, you'll like Recca, I find him to be a much more interesting main character than Yusuke, once he gets going at least (by the 20's). BTW, I recently borrowed an HK DVD of the series from a friend just to rewatch it, and it was horrid. Halfway through the subs started being about fifteen seconds too early, and the four DVDs cover all 40+ episodes by skipping some 3-6 episodes between each DVD. Oh, and when you get to the end of the anime, there IS an animated followup to it, in the form of the Japanese PS2 game, which is a sort of "Dragon Slayer" controllable movie thing, and basically provides (apparently) solid animation of the entire SODOM arc, which is the last of the series, meaning that the only portion of the show not truly animated would be the "Sealed Lands" arc in the middle.
Are you talking about it's Rotoscoping (animating over film of real people for a more fluid animation)? Take on Me didn't even come close to inventing that little technique, it goes back to the 30's or earlier (and a ton of anime use it in their openings these days). |

FWIW, I just found the article again.
animenewsnetwork.com/convention.php?discuss=163 Wish this site's news archive was better so I could have it faster. Anyway, it look's like the DVD was planned for the October issue. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be a subscriber-only special item. D'oh. -_- |

Sorry, I meant my last comment to be in the Linkin Park thread.

I've been enjoying the manga quite a bit. THey ran some eps at Comic-con, but they messed up the airings so I saw the first ep twice & missed several others.
I don't know what they have about hero voices, but Recca's dub hit me as a tad dorkboy & the story did seem to set-up different. |
