I am reading the Pet Shop of Horrors manga currently and was looking for some other titles. I want to know which is best, Princess Ai, by Courtney Love, xxxHOLiC by CLAMP, or Hot Gimmick, the shoujo title???

Those are all titles that really don't have a lot in common with each other. Princess Ai...I'm reading it right now...it's mediocre. Hot Gimmick is very good, but it all depends on what you're looking for. I would say XXXHolic (seeing you liked Petshop of Horrors) would probably be what you're looking for. I enjoy XXXHolic loads, and it's probably one of my favorite series right now.

Like Lianncoop said, it's all what you're looking for. Personally, I think Princess Ai is on a whole lower level compared to your other two choices, which are personal favorites of mine. If you still need help deciding, just look at the pros and cons for each manga:
Princess Ai: Pro: A co-production of several highly creative indiduals. Con: Generic girl thrown into another world, and has yet to impress any readers. To some, people find Courtney Love's involvment a con. Hot Gimmick: Pro: Highly addicting slice of life shoujo story with tons of twists. It's to most one of those stories you can't put down. Con: I love the art, but most I encouncer say they hate it, so the majority may not like the art. XXXholic: Pro: It's by CLAMP It has fantastic art The storyline is rather original so far with lots of supernatrual elements. Big pro if you like the supernatrual. Con: The price? I dunno. Sometimes crosses over with other series? Wait, that can be a pro too... Yeah, I suck at that. I'll try to remember not to ever do that again. |

I dunno about Hot Gimmick, but I'd definatly pass on Princess Ai. I mean if Courtney Love's involved with anything it turns out to be not that great. i.e. Her release of Cobain's Journal, big disappointment. I've own volumes 1 & 2 of XXXHolic (the only ones available in the US as of now) and they are just incredible... especially if you're a fan of CLAMP's work. The one thing that's kind of strange about it is that it's labeled under shoujo yet it's not like anything shoujo i've ever seen/read. Very good, you must own it.

I think I am going to go with xxxHOLiC, then with Princess Ai just because I rather like Courtney Love. How much do the volumes of xxxHOLiC cost?

I do want you to keep in mind that Del Rey is doing an EXCELLENT job with their manga line. Putting down that extra $1.00 or so is completely worth it.

Wait till the next volume about those spoiler[mokonas.] Oh yeah, some of you who have XXXholic probably don't know it yet, but the chapter where Yuuko gets sick in volume one is also a cross over. I have no idea if del rey made a note about that or not, but the drugstore Watanuki goes to is the drugstore ran by the Gohou Drug boys. |

Oh yeah, I would go with xxxholic. I read Princess Ai in the Tokyopop sampler, and in my opinion, wasn't that good. No offense to Courtney Love
 . But it really depends on what kind of manga you prefer.
