Joining this website has taught me a lot about anime and anime fans. For example in harmony with the name of this thread I always taught that anime fans would be more interested in subs than dubs! Boy was I wrong! As I said in another thread I have no hatred for dubs, but I just love subs! I really like to hear Japenese VAs in anime they really put a lot of feeling into their characters that they are doing, especially when it's an emotional scene(for some weird reason I like scenes when their screaming )
But I just wanted to know are their anime fans like myself who love subs and why u prefer them over dubs!

Technically, I shouldn't be posting in this thread as I am more of a dub than sub fan, but I did want to express my appreciation for subs. That is one benefit of being a damn, dirty streamer of fansubs - I get exposed to the Japanese language far more than if I just stuck to buying hybrid DVDs. Listening has taught me that Japanese is actually quite a beautiful, melodious language, much like the Romance Languages (French, Spanish and Italian). Listening to a sexy-voiced female seiyuu breathily saying words that are mostly incomprehensible to me...
...heaven.

I prefer subs over dubs for a couple of reasons. More varieties in VAs and as a learning tool of the language. Not to say that I dislike dubs but if there's a choice, I'd always opt for the former.

I now watch all my anime sub and that is because I like to watch anything in their original form. For example if I am watching a french film, I watch that with the french track with subs. I don't hate dubs; I used to watch some anime that is dub back in the days when there was a lot of dub only vhs. Now that there are two choices, I just prefer subs. Funny thing though, I don't own any sub only dvd; I own mostly all funimation stuff and just turn on the japanese track.

I can understand both sides of the issue though I prefer subs by a huge margin. Dubs are good because it allows you to pay more attention to the scene and the voices, it seems like its harder to hear the emotion in the voice when my attention is on the words on the bottom of the screen. But i also feel like subs are often closer to the original dialog and I just prefer Japanese voice actors in general, that being said there are a few animes that are just a must see dubbed like cowboy bebop and baccano

I like both.
I'll usually default to a sub, but if I hear a good dub, I'll watch that instead.

I normally watch the sub, unless I hear that the dub is particularly good (I tried both on Cowboy Bebop and watched it with the dub) ... but then again I was already used to watching subtitled foreign films before I ever started watching much anime.

I don't mean to offend, but what is the point of this thread? If the internet is any indication, it's pretty damn obvious there are sub fans. From fansubs to legal subs, you know there are sub fans.

We need yet another skirmish in the dub-sub war. Not enough threads have been locked, not enough posters have been banned and not enough mods are pulling their hair out cursing the day they accepted that job.
The never ending war continues....

I myself prefer a good sub. Dubs don't really do it for me because it just doesn't sound...right sometimes.
I also like the emotion that Japanese VAs put into animes. I agree with the author, when it comes to things like scream scenes, Japanese VAs really don't hold back! I like this.
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with dubs. I have a few favorites, like Bleach and Aquarion for example, where the main characters sounded like I thought they would.
Given a choice though, I'd pick the sub over the dub any time.

As I said in my orginal post I have no hatred for dubs so this is NOT A SUB VS DUB WAR! I hear almost everyone talking about dub, and I just wanted to know if there are sub fans on this site! This is not about why you hate dubs, but why you prefer subs over dubs that's all!

Gundam83*--
For what it is worth, you can color me as a sub-fan -- although I, of course, do not wish to imply any aspersions toward dub aficionados; and here's a question to put out there: Is there anyone out there who is neutral in regard to the great sub. v. dub debate?**
*(by the way, your avatar was adorably evil -- not any more )***
**(if this question ignites yet another round of aspersions between the sub. and dub camps, then I shall respectfully withdraw it)

Well yes, I always watch subs.
Dubs have a place though. For example, while waiting for my little boy to be old enough to watch anime, I'm taking an interest in dubs of the children's shows that I'm looking forward to watching with him. Children obviously need them!

I usually watch all shows (not just anime, but other foreign works too) at least twice, that way I can watch both subed and dubed versions of the work.

I almost never watch anything dubbed, always subbed. There are some shows that I cannot help but have to watch dubbed and most of it makes me cringe in horror. (Notice I said most)
I remember seeing a shirt at Otakon a few years back "Friends don't let friends watch dubbed anime" hilarious.
