Volume 5 was just released on the 10 of this month. That volume had 4 epidsodes 17, 18, 19, and 20. Ok now to the part that doesnt make since. There is only 6 episodes left to release and they will have 3 dvd's releasing only 6 episodes. Each dvd will have only 2 episodes. Does that make any since at all? You could have 2 dvd's with 3 on each.
Just trying to get more money I guess.

It's going to be released over seven volumes. Lately a few of the bigger domestic distributors (Bandai, Geneon, ADV, etc.) have been releasing majour series over fewer volumes, probably because the local industry's grown to the point that they can appease fans' wishes for fewer DVDs to have to buy and still turn the same kind of profit.
Support the industry, and they will eventually help you in return.

Every dvd release of Last Exile has a title on it and that title is usually the last episode on the dvd. And volume 7's dvd title isnt the last episodes title but it's the episode 24's title.

Well of course...its episode 24-26; three episodes. It has the name of the 24th episode on the dvd because its the first episode on the disc.

I was under the impression that volume titles weren't all that closely related to the episodes themselves.

What happen to the good old days when most 26 episode dvd would be released in 6 DVD (Bebop, Outlaw Star, etc) or 8 DVD (Trigun, Escaflowne etc). Now it seem that 7 DVD is becoming more and more common.

Well, there are some still being released over six (Azumanga Daioh, Witch Hunter Robin, looks like Wolf's Rain might be, as well), but it just seems that eight is slowly being phased out for the lucky number seven (even the most recent Evangelion re-release is over seven discs, if I recall correctly).

It's 7. I tried fitting some cases in there to see how many would fit, and 7 of them fit in there. I guess one of the DVDs will have the OAVs.

Wolf's Rain will be 7 discs (it does have 30 episodes, though). And Evangelion Platinum will be 7 as well (again, 30 episodes with the "Director's Cuts").
And I'm sure GitS: Stand Alone Complex being 7 discs has something to do with Manga's involvement, since Bandai is good about 26 episode series on 6 discs.

Too bad Funimation is one of those few companies that still does 8 DVD volumes.

It is kind of upsetting that companies can get away with stretching series over so many discs. I just hope those last two discs have some major extras that will persuade me to pay $20+ a piece for them.
I guess I'm forced to regardless since I already own part of the series.

Well, Fruits Basket was 4 volumes, and that to me is excellent. But yeah, 8 is not good for cheapskates like me... .
