Does anyone know exactly how many episodes of Kenshin there are and if there are a lot, is it worth watching all of them?

I think there are 95 episodes (the encyclopedia says 90, but I believe that's incorrect). It's worth watching at least through the Kyoto story arc with Shishio, which is around episode 50 something. After that depends on how die hard a fan you are. There are some gems that are hilarious, but overall I thought the story quality dropped dramatically. Regarding the story after the Kyoto arc, the manga version is much better in my opinion.

Anyone know if they plan to bring out a box set for it or at least box sets for the individual story arcs?

I've corrected the number of episodes in the Encyclopedia, but that's the problem with allowing anyone to add information: sometimes it's going to be wrong. Yep, it's 95 episodes. With the 95th episode actually being a kind of "extra" episode that was supposed to bring some closure to the series. |

humm.... might it be 90 episodes, plus the '95th episode' which wasn't aired on tv (iirc), plus 4 tv specials? (i know i'd've totalled it as 95, but I'm just trying to figure out where the 90 might've come from..) i think it should still be 95, but that would account for why he might've entered 90. |

Yes, Rurouni Kenshin is available in box sets!
Bundle 1 : episodes 1-27, aprox $135 Bundle 2 : episodes 28-52, aprox $110 Bundle 3 : episodes 53-95, aprox $225 (ouch) Let's see that totals out to be $470........It's gonna be a while for me

As to whether or not they're all worth watching, most fans I've talked to say that the the third season (the Meiji arc) isn't really worth your time. It's not based on anything in the manga, and gets quite DBZish in places (for one thing, it has ful-on ki attacks. In feudal Japan.)

There are some occasional fun things to watch (like the episode where Kaoru thinks that Kenshin is getting her an engagement ring), but most of the stuff past the Kyoto story arc is a wash - this was when the manga was coming out slower than the anime so they (the people working on the anime) started to make stuff up. Needless to say, some of the stories weren't as good as the manga turned out. As for feudal Japan, that happened several hundred years before Kenshin - around 1200 AD IIRC. Kenshin takes place during the Meiji era. |

Feng shui's been around for several thousands of years. It was introduced to the US around the 1840s by Chinese immigrants. Needless to say, the Japanese knew about it long before the Americans did, but if we really want to argue that was because the Americans re-made Japan go through the feng shui bit, then it still works fine since Perry first landed in Japan in 1854. And Kenshin takes place originally in arond 1859, with the series kicking off, what was it, 10 years after that? But true, it's still goofy. (Speaking of goofy, I just re-watched Rayearth 2 today, and BOY, does that series smack of lame scenes. Still enjoyable though.) |
