I just don't understand it. How is it that all of you guys see like tons of different anime and know all the producers and the directors and stuff? Like I try to see as much as I can but I can't get my hands on any. I don't have cable or anything so I have to buy all of it that I see. What can I do?

You can rent quite a few titles through netflix now. There's also a site called animeforest.com that will rent them one at a time through the mail.
I am personally blessed with a local mom & pop shop that has everything for super cheap. |

Yeah, renting's probably the best option. As most of the rental stores where I live carry pathetically few anime or foreign films, I rent from Netflix (http://www.netflix.com/Default). From what I've seen, I think it's got a pretty good anime selection. Actually, the only series I've rented was the Angel Sanctuary OAV, (and they sent my Trigun by accident, and didn't feel like complaining, so I never did see it...), but I've been trying to add other ones to my queue.
Really, though, I'd rather read manga instead. |

Netflix sends it through the mail, and you just mail it back when you're done. Depending on how close you live to a shipping area and whether they have your movies there, I believe it takes about 1-3 days to arrive (I'm lucky enough to get them in one day). There can be some complications, like my aforementioned problem, but overall I think it's a great investment. |

It cost somehing like 20 bucks a month and they ship you like 3 dvd at a time. After you're done watching them, just send the dvd back into them with a paid evelope that they provided and queue 3 more dvd to be rented out. Some lucky people said they can rent a max of 15 dvd a month with all the transaction and living cost by. That's like the price of a dvd per month. |

Two other sources of information:
1. Fansubs 2. Reading websites and books about anime |

I rent most of my anime. Sadly I have almost gone through most of the anime at my local store
And for shame bnewhall, recommending fansubs... <hey, who are you? Get out of my room! Leave my computer alone! No, um, those aren't fansubs, honest... ok ok, they're fansubs! Now leave me alone! |

In my case, I have to buy everything I ever want to watch, because I can't rent. Well, I can, but they'll never arrive in the mail because they will be intercepted by the postal service.
Some weeks back, I checked out the local rental shop and they've got all of 3 titles, all Miyazaki's movies, which I already have in my collection. Local rental places are pathetic. Online rental sites don't work for me (weird local laws). Buying is a better option because there are some licensed titles and tons of bootlegs sold legally here (yes, it's not the source but rather the contents that the government frowns upon), but still, there are lots of interesting titles that are not available here. Oh well, do like I do, grow up, get a job and buy anime. |

Lets face it: for some series, fansubs are the only option (Kanon and Maria-sama for a start!) JBV^_^ |
